Weblog Awards 2005: Vote Every Day!

This post will stay here until voting ends. Be sure to check below for new posts!

Remember, you can vote once, per computer, per day. If you keep track of your votes, we’ll recognize our top five supporters here on the blog. Feel free to be creative (i.e. email relatives, call through your church directories, etc.) Thank you all so much!

UPDATE: As another incentive, we will also recognize (including a link) every blogger who posts encouraging their readers to vote. From what we can tell The Rebelution is the only homeschool blog, and one of only two teen blogs in the entire Weblog Awards.

Go and Vote for the Rebelution

What’s all this about?

  6. Alex Jordan Harris Says:

Thank you everyone! Keep on voting… There’s a week of voting left to do and other blogs could easily catch up.

  7. Alex Jordan Harris Says:

Speaking of catching up… We’re in second place now.

  8. need million dollars Says:

    Hi,
would you please link to my blog, or maybe just give me a million dollar? :)

  9. Anonymous Says:

This isn’t good! You need more voters!!!

  10. Kaitlin Says:

I shall persist until you succeed!! Vote, vote, vote, vote!!

  11. Sarah Says:

Would you be willing to allow me to put your ‘do hard things’ logo on my site?

  12. Brett Harris Says:

Sarah: Sure you can. In fact, I’ve gone ahead and thrown together the html for you, so you can just paste in in your template, post, etc. If you want to email me: rebelution [dot] blogspot [at] gmail [dot] com with your email address, I’ll give it to you.

  13. Brett Harris Says:

Kaitlin: Thanks!! Your enthusiasm is very encouraging! =)

  14. Kaitlin Says:

No problem. I just hope you guys win!! Yippee! I’m going to go and see if I can vote again now.

  15. sarah Says:

Ha ha! You guys are ahead! Hopefully, it will last!

Phooey; I can’t be anywhere without there being another Sarah! Oh, well. It’s a nice name

  16. Jo Says:

Comment Edited by Siteowner: See comment below.

  17. Bryce Says:

Brett and Alex, I have voted twice and will continue. I also asked my small group of readers to cast their votes.

I tried to vote on my desktop and laptop, but they go through the same router and have the same IP.

  18. hannah Says:

thanks Jo, and i’ve asked my readers over on xanga to vote. :-) you’re ahead now!

  19. Jo Says:

Hannah, I’m glad my tip was helpful!
LoL!! Maybe my dad will let me use his laptop!:)
    Jo

  20. Alex Jordan Harris Says:

Thank you so much for your enthusiasm, girls. We really appreciate it so much. =)

However, I’m afraid that your newly discovered technique could be considered to be cheating, which we do not want. We have edited your previous comments accordingly, which I am sure you understand.

Don’t feel bad at all, we just wanted to make sure we clarified this right away. =) Feel free to ask friends and family to vote on all of their computers… Every day! =D

Thank you again! Stay enthusiastic!

    God bless!

  21. Brett Harris Says:

Bryce & Hannah: Thanks for posting about it! We’ll be sure to recognize your blogs once this is over.

As a reminder to everyone, we shouldn’t let up just because we’re ahead by 20 or 30 votes. We’ve just seen how fast that can melt away.

  22. hannah Says:

oops! thanks for letting me know. i’ll hold off a couple of times to make up for it.

  23. Jo Says:

Sorry, I didn’t realize. I shall vote once per computer then. Thank you for leting me know about it being cheating.
    Jo

  24. Alex Jordan Harris Says:

Thanks, girls. =) Don’t worry, it wasn’t a big deal… We just want to make sure people aren’t trying to figure out ways to vote more than once per computer.

  25. MacStansbury Says:

one site lost 2,000 votes today because of cheating. they are extremely good about snuffing it out.

  26. Jo Says:

You said that you would recognize every blogger who posts encouraging their readers to vote. What if you don’t have any readers?
    Just wondering.

  27. Alex Jordan Harris Says:

Yes, even if you don’t have any readers. =)

And you can email people too, if you want.

  28. Kaitlin Says:

I don’t understand what you just said Alex and Jo?

  29. LibertyandJustice Says:

At last check, there is only one blog in you category that is even remotely close, and is behind by 30+ votes. Alright Rebelution!

  30. LibertyandJustice Says:

Just put link up to this post, encouraging my readers to vote.

  31. Brett Harris Says:

Bill: Thanks for linking! I will point out though, even a lead of 40+ isn’t very secure since rightwingsparkle seems to be very competent at rousing her troops to action. =)

But we’re on the right track! Keep rocking the vote rebelutionaries!

  32. John Robert Moore Says:

Voted 3 times now, on two computers.

    :D

    Good fun, it is!

  33. Hannah Says:

Just voted for you for the third time! And I have encouraged my readers to vote for you also!

  34. Brett Harris Says:

    I just talked to one of my good friends who lives near the library . . . all those computers . . . votes . . . hmmm . . .

  35. Jason Says:

I don’t live by a public library, but as a freshman at a university with multiple libraries and computer labs, every time I need to check my e-mail (and even sometimes when I don’t), I make sure I log on to a different computer and vote.

Perhaps part of the reason Rightwingsparkle is keeping it close. . . she will name her next dog after her top supporter.

  36. hannah Says:

okay, well i’ll name my next fish…just kidding! ;-)

  37. Carmon Says:

Hi guys…I think you are doing a wonderful job encouraging Christian young people to do all things for Christ and to “do hard things.” Weblog awards are fun, and you deserve to win one. I enthusiastically support Spunky’s recognition of homeschooling bloggers. But I do wonder if it’s wise to participate in this particular contest when one of the main categories is LGBT blogs when the tacit acceptance of sodomy in our culture is one of the biggest battles we fight today.

May God give you grace as you keep fighting those battles. You have done well even when asked hard questions by old ladies like me who sometimes throw cold water on the party ;-) .

  38. Brett Walker Says:

Hey, very cool blog (obviously). I’ve voted twice now, I hope you guys win!

(I’m an NCFCA’er, I think I’ve seen you guys debate before at nats)

  39. Marshall Sherman Says:

of course I’ve voted multiple times, and I posted on xanga and my blog. :)

    God bless you two!

    =D

  40. Kaitlin Says:

I think that the votes have gone up 100 votes since the last time I checked earlier this afternoon but I could be mistaken. :-)

  41. Ariel Says:

You have my vote, and I gave you a link. I’m actually competing in the Weblogs Awards too! (different category)

  42. Brett Harris Says:

Thanks guys! Some of RightWingSparkle’s supporters are emailing everyone in the address book asking them to vote . . . if any of you want to pick up on that idea.

  43. Dale Stoltzfus Says:

    Hi guys!

I first heard of your blog when I was down in San Antonio at the San Antonio Christian Film Festival’s Film Acadamy and I want to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for this blog.

I really enjoy you thought-provoking posts; the blogosphere needs more like you.

Good luck; you have my votes!

  44. Alex Jordan Harris Says:

You may also want to check out this link (first comment).

  45. Adrielle Says:

Wow, that comment you linked to from rightwingsparkle is not nice! Well, I’ve been voting for you guys; I think I’ve voted 5 or 6 times so far.
    * goes off to email my contacts asking that they vote for The Rebelution *

  46. Shaun Connell Says:

Wonderful blog guys. Very convicting and encouraging. Keep up the good work.

  47. JoAnna T. Says:

I read the comment by rightwingsparkle, but I am thinking she is being sarcastic. At least, I hope so. :) Check the comments on this for something she said about homeschoolers: http://rightwingsparkle.blogspot.com/2005/12/good-grief.html

  48. Kaitlin Says:

She’s just jealous! I’ll just keep voting, voting, voting……

  49. sarah Says:

That’s actually kinda funny…..she’s desperate. This blog is tops; I’m voting for you guys!

    Sarah

  50. Kaitlin Says:

I’m voting on the church computer now…

  51. Kaitlin Says:

    Muhahahhahahahaha!!!!!!!!

  52. Seth Says:

This blog is my favorite!! I hope you win, so good luck. Thanks for such a great job!

  53. Jo Says:

Just a question. Would it be cheating to vote on a virtual machine?

  54. Brett Harris Says:

Everyone: Thanks for you work! We’re doing great! Let’s keep pulling away. Alex and I are at an event this whole week, but we’ll be checking in as much as we can (we’ll even be posting a few times, hopefully).

Jo: Maybe I’m just ignorant, but what do you mean by “virtual machine?”

  55. Brett Harris Says:

Carmon: I’m sorry for not responding to your question sooner. I’m afraid I don’t have a clear answer for you, except that these awards are not voluntary. We had no say in our being chosen as finalists and the rules do not allow us to withdraw from the competition. However, your point is gracious and good. We promise that we will carefully consider such aspects when the choice is ours to make. God bless!

  56. Jo Says:

My dad said that if you want to know what a virtual machine is, to go here: www.vmware.com

I think a virtual machine is basically a computer that doesn’t exactly exist. So, if you have a virtual machine on your computer, you have 2 computers but one of them isn’t real.

  57. Carmon Says:

Thank you for your answer, Brett. I understand that we live in an imperfect world, and we must be careful about which battles we choose to fight. Also, I know that some believe it’s good if Christian and homeschooling blogs are recognized in a secular forum (and I have nothing about such recognition, though I don’t believe we usually need to seek it). I am concerned, though, about directing young people to the site of the awards as curiosity about the other blogs might cause some to browse around.

    From the Weblog Awards site:

Our dirty little secret has been exposed!

Several e-mailers, in the course of thanking me (which is sincerely appreciated) for the thankless job of organizing this contest have noted sentiment similar to this, “I have discovered so many great new sites by visiting the finalists!”

Busted! The dirty little secret of The Weblog Awards is that it’s not really about who wins, it’s increasing exposure for all of the blogs in The Weblog Awards. Every year I get messages about people finding new sites via The Weblog Awards. At the end of the day that’s the real benefit of the whole thing.

If your site is receiving the exposure, I think that’s a good thing. But some very bad ones are also getting noticed, and I know that I don’t want my children browsing around there. I asked my daughter to take down her link to encourage her readers to vote for you there for that reason, though I would be happy for her to encourage people to vote for you at Spunky’s awards.

In taking every thought captive there are tough decisions to make and of course, we will not all agree about where to draw the line. But as a mom who knows from experience the dangers of children not being supervised well at the computer and visiting sites which are promoting things which are not pleasing to God, I encourage you to be cautious about where you encourage people to click.

    Warmly,
    Carmon

  58. OptyMyst Says:

congrats guys - i have been asking folks to vote for you. great job!

  59. Alex Jordan Harris Says:

Thank you, OptyMyst! I greatly appreciated your coverage of the Kara Borden/David Ludwig tragedy while working on my several posts regarding it.

  60. Cody Herche Says:

Using an IP scrambler, I could vote for you guys a lot more effectively. Should I implement it? ;-)

Honestly, this whole competition is absolutely hilarious. Check out your main competitor (rightwingsparkle.blogspot.com) and note that only the REBELUTION and RIGHTWINGSPARKLE, the two sites that are actively advertising themselves, are over 200 votes on Wizbang.

I love your blog and, as long as that’s the way the competition works, I am asking my readers to vote for you.

  61. Alex Jordan Harris Says:

Hey Cody, anything that uses a single computer to vote more than once in 24 hours is not allowed.

So… Don’t do that. However, asking your readers to vote would be most appreciated. Thanks!

  62. Caleb Goforth Says:

I vote! BTW do you remember me? Upon seeing your profile pic I recognized you both. I was at the hubers last dance. Funny that I would run across you guys.

  63. Caleb Goforth Says:

Your not in second place any more, your in first!!!!

  64. OptyMyst Says:

glad to help. glad you are helping young people, too. thanks.

  65. Kaitlin Says:

Brett and Alex, you should be preparing your award-winnning speech!! :-)

  66. JoAnna T. Says:

    Sir,
    Speaking evil of God is a most dangerous thing! God is holy and is to be feared, not blasphemed! “Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who will render to every man according to his deeds: to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life;
but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation.” (Romans 2:4-8)

  67. JoAnna T. Says:

    * (Romans 2: verses four thru eight)

  68. David Peyton Says:

These posts from “grandpa stole bets” seem to be some sort of anti-religion spam. I have noticed them on other parts of the site. In a case like this, such vehment hatred of Christianity and seemingly all things religious, can only be effectively countered by one thing: by the moral influence of a holy life. Ryle once said in a sermon:

“Now, when all who name the name of Christ thus become living, radiant likenesses of gospel truth—then there will be an end of all controversy as to the truth and importance of the Christian religion… Let our religious principles take the form of self-denying exertions to do good and get good; let the religion of Christ, in some good degree, reappear in the lives of its professors—and the caviling, carping world will be silenced and excuseless.”

That, I am happy to say, is showing through most excellently in your lives, Alex and Brett! Also in your father’s and especially your brother’s life! What wonderful examples. May God give you and all of us the strength and grace to become Living Epistles for Him!

    In Him,

  69. Kaitlin Says:

You made the 1000 mark, woohoo!!!!!!!!!!

  70. Kaitlin Says:

When can I get your autographs???!?!

  71. Ednella Sound-Out Says:

I finally got on a windows compy where I could vote!! lol. I don’t think you need the IP scrambler… you are beating everyone by miles and miles.

    ~Nella

  72. Mike Says:

    I voted for you!

  73. JonnyB Says:

    Heh heh… perceptive comment, Cody…!

  74. Kaitlin Says:

You guys are three votes away from having a lead of 200 votes!!

  75. paul Says:

    I’m voting. Go rebelution!

  76. Brett Harris Says:

You guys are the absolute best! Keep it up!

Maybe I’m just insecure, but we do need to keep it up, or else our competition could, theoretically, catch up.

OK . . . that sounded really insecure.

  77. Spunky Jr. Says:

I don’t know if you could get that behind Brett…the voting ends tomorrow! Anyways…I’ve voted for you guys multiple times and I hope you win :)

  78. Adrielle Says:

No need to b insecure anymore, you guys won!

    Congratulations!!!

  79. Kaitlin Says:

Yay!!!! Well done you guys! I hope you have your speech ready!

  80. Hannah Says:

Congratulations for winning! You earned it.

  81. Alex Jordan Harris Says:

Thanks guys! Actually, they won’t be making results official for a few more days, so we’re not exactly the “winners” yet. However, things look good. =)

Kaitlin: Haha… We’ll try to have something ready by the time the official announcement is made. =P

For now, make sure you go and vote in the Homeschool Blog Awards… Every person in your family can vote, as long as they have an email address. Just make sure to recommend that they vote for The Rebelution.

  82. Kaitlin Says:

Thanks Alex….. Would you like a ceremony too?? :-)
