Isaac Botkin: Production Process of a Short Film
Tonight, before our eyes, a short epic in the tradition of “Master and Commander,” came to life on a sea of foaming Legos.
Legos? That’s right. During his session, “Production Process of a Short Film,” Isaac Botkin premiered the animated short, “Men O’ War,” which he and his siblings threw together just for Academy attendees.
It is a beautiful example of what can happen when character, competence and collaboration are present in a godly family. I wish I could make a movie like this with my little brothers.
The Botkins began with a timeline for the month long production.

The three-minute short was full of incredible Lego battle scenes like this one, all created with LightWave 3D.

As has been emphasized repeatedly throughout the Academy, the storyboard was one of the first steps in producing the short.

The storyboard is taken to the editing board.

I will be posting it at some point on my website… but that’ll be after the festival, and after I fix my site.

Wow - I have immense respect for those with enough determination to creat something like that. Filmmaking is a sideline hobby of mine (after costuming - I did all of the costumes in The Midnight Test, which is a semi-finalist this year) but that is amazing. Great job, guys!
