Mr. Phillips showed a five-minute clip from a Learning Channel documentary to introduce festival attendee’s to the nationally-known Duggar family, special guest speakers for the third annual San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival.

From the SAICFF website:

One of the most remarkable events on cable television took place when hundreds of thousands of viewers watched as a Christian home school family of sixteen biological children, raised their family, worked together and managed a happy, orderly household to the glory of God. Entitled, “Raising 16 Children,” this Discovery Health Channel documentary series soon became the number one special on the network. Letters began to pour in with questions and praises from men and women across the nation who were profoundly impacted by a Christian family on television that was not ashamed of their faith, and who deeply, passionately, loved children. The response was so overwhelming that Discovery commissioned three other specials including “On the Road With Sixteen Children,” and “16 Chidlren and Moving In!,” the later of which was broadcast on The Learning Channel.

God has blessed the Duggar family’s comittment to their faith in Christ, their joyful presentation of the blessing of trusting the Lord for the fruit of the womb, and the spirit of revival they have demonstrated in their approach to family life. The success of the television series attracted a great deal of national attention. The Duggar family has appeared on national television on The Today Show, CNN, the CBS Early Show and many others, where they have shared their faith and their love for the Christian family. After the birth of their last child they did seven live broadcasts in front of their house in one day.

Now the family of six girls and ten boys travels to Texas to be featured speakers at the 2006 San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival. Attendees will get a powerful look into the way a large Christian family works together as a team in a successful project of national impact, where the goal of the family is to bless the broader culture with a love for Christ. In addition to a behind-the-scenes look at a television documentary sensation, attendees will be able to interact and ask questions and gain insights concerning the successful management of a large family. This is a very special opportunity for filmmakers, home educators, and Christian parents.

Oh, that is so neat that they got to go to the Film Festival! We have known them for as long as I can remember. Mrs. Duggar always inspires me every time I’m around her.

Raising 16 children is surely the reason the Duggars were featured on Discovery, and given such a tremondous opportunity to share their faith. But it is equally challenging, and of equal blessing to raise one child in the fear of the Lord. We must be careful as believers to assume that the number of children in a family is a direct indication of the faithfulness of the parents.

  5. Chelsea Says:

Wow, how awesome that the Duggars are blessed with 16 children. I think it’s cool that God could give two people the ability to raise so many children. I can’t imagine the patience it would take! Truly a testimony to God’s faithfulness to His children.

you are ultraprotective of this family, which simply seeks to get massive amounts of attention, while creating loads of earthly waste. think about it - 16 plus children equals
investment opportunity for multiple companies to put them on tv and in turn place their
products for free in their home. people struggling with 2 children deserve more than these
people who have been completely irresponsible leaving too many children to not live
a normal life in which they each have an equal amount of parental contact. don’t tell
me that the first 3 or 4 children born don’t have a great advantage over the last 5 born.
these people are attention mongering and are in love with themselves. i know, let’s all
have 16 children or more and then see what the world population is in about 40 years.
my argument isn’t insulting - it is with point. i do think they are attention seeking, i do
think they are taking full advantage of this situation they have - i see this as a plausible fact and not as an insult. this is called giving an opinion, making an argument, giving a criticism - there are no curse words in this blog - you may find it insulting but it is just
simply strong opinion. if you can’t keep these things up then you do not run a true blog - your blog is fake. if i used four letter words i would understand. you don’t like that my
comments seem like an attack - so what? THIS IS A BLOG, ISN’T IT? gimme a break.
if you don’t keep comments like mine up, then this blog is a phony and completely and deliberately screened so that comments fall toward your own bias and reasoning.
the duggar family are an example of too much of a good thing. we should all strive to
be balanced in our lives. this is a gross imbalance. just think what will happen in the future of this earth if we all follow their example. what a world it would be indeed!!

They are a blessing to society they are contributing members who will be in the work force supporting your old age pension. They are not full of themselves they are just being witnesses for Christ with the platform Hes’ given them to share God bless Julie blessed mama to six hopefully more

I really think the duggars are awesome for spreading their faith, keep it up. As for taking all of the free stuff for their new house maybe Len has truth to him. don’t get me wrong I love the Duggars, but would a true loving Christian home like the duggars ever accept free appliances and furniture or would they not want to do the Christian thing and give it away to other who are less fortunate. Think of all of the innocent families who lost lives and homes in katrina here is a real life lesson, how many of these families would love to get even one new washing machine instead the big out for ratings tv stations give 8 to the duggars.

I love that this family loves each of their childreeen and would welcome more. They are not living off of others but their resources. the children are wll fed and tended to. Each child is a blessing large families in the 30’s and forties were not uncommon. This family makes it work. Their faith in God proves God will provide.
