Becca: We were specifically referencing the the blogs that Spunky Homeschool is trailing -- one of which our Internet filter blocks for inappropriate content. The blogs you mention don't fall into that category. I'm sorry if we were unclear!

I didn't know about Spunky's blog before reading this post, and I'm sorry I didn't - it looked like she wrote about some really interesting stuff.

I do wonder, though, what do you mean by saying that she's trailing "several less-than-commendable blogs". While that applies to a few of the other blogs in the running, it certainly doesn't apply to the majority of them, as your phrase implies! I read "The Education Wonks" regularly and find their coverage of education issues generally pretty good, and a good number of the other blogs in the running look great too, especially "Faith and Theology" and "History is Elementary". Don't discourage your readers from checking out the other blogs, too!

Over 10, probably closer to 15 years ago, I heard a man give a talk on homeschooling. He said, "Be prepared as parents to go far as you need be to find quality friendships for your children. Don't just take what moves into your neighborhood, you may need to drive a country mile to find them." Little did I know that the internet would bring my children (and me) quality friendships without even leaving my home! But he was right, quality friendships are not easy to come by. We're blessed to count you among our friends.

I learned a few other things from that homeschool speaker. He said, that life has seasons. Walking through them faithfully will prepare us for the next season. I always keep that in my mind and it was a factor in my decision to retire from blogging. It's a season that God has used to prepare me for what is coming next.

Amazingly, those words are still having an impact on my life, all these many years later.

Even more amazing, that speaker was your dad. His book was one of the first homeschool books I read. His words impacted me (and my husband) more than he will ever know . I'm humbled to know that in a VERY small way, we've been able to give back a little for all he's invested in homeschoolers and our family.

Brett and Alex, your kinds words and "vote of confidence" are precious and much appreciated. Your friendship and example to our family are a blessing. In God's providence, the Harris clan is impacting our family as much today, as their dad did way back when.

May God Bless You and Your Family,
Spunky

I voted, and I'll be voting! I love you Spunky!
And by the way guys, I think you meant that voting goes until Friday the 15th, not Tuesday. Thanks for letting us know about this opportunity.
