Working on the Modesty Survey

TheRebelution.com's Modesty SurveyThe question submission deadline for the Modesty Survey was today. In less than two weeks 215 Christian girls from around the world submitted 360+ questions on every modesty-related topic imaginable. Katrina Rowe, our Female Survey Coordinator, did an excellent job organizing the question submission process.

But the work is not done. Not even close. Our Illustration Wing, headed up by Sarah Harris (our sister), is wrapping up their search for photo-illustrations of each item of clothing referenced in the submitted questions. This will make it 100% easier for the guys taking the survey to understand what is being asked.

David Boskovic, our entire IT Department, is programming an incredible survey system with a secure (anonymous) login process that will keep track of which questions each participant has answered and which ones they haven’t. This means that no matter how many times someone logs-in and out they’ll always be able to pick right back up where they left off.

Finally, the 360+ questions must be searched for redundancy, edited for clarity, and organized for final presentation in the survey. Not every submitted question will be included in the final survey and most questions will be edited. Our goal is to make it relatively easy for guys to address each of the topics raised by the submitted questions.

Thank you all for your enthusiasm and support. We are getting more and more excited about this project everyday. It is going to be a tremendous blessing to both guys and girls. If you haven’t already, please consider placing one of our snazzy sidebar ads on your website or blog.

Please make sure that the web survey will work with various browsers on various Operating Systems. It would stink to have to switch to Internet Explorer to take the survey.
    Good work so far!

    Hey Simon, no worries. :)

  16. Maribeth Says:

Thank you so much for doing this. You have no idea how much this is going to mean to us young ladies who desire to please the Lord in how we dress but are at a loss for clear guidlines.

  17. Alyssa C. Says:

I can’t wait to see the results! :)

  18. Emily Says:

All I ask is that, guys, please remember that a lot of times it is very hard for girls to find clothes that are a good fit so, please don’t be ridiculous when you are answering the questions and empty our wardrobes down to nothing but garbage bags.

  19. james kirkpatrick Says:

A much-anticipated event. You all are a professional lot.

  20. Miriam H. Says:

I’m really looking forward to the results! Thanks for doing this.

  21. Alex Jordan Harris Says:

Emily and All: Thank you for the reminder, Emily. The results of the survey are only meant to serve as a help and reference. They certainly are not law. Our hope is to make it easier, not harder, for our sisters in Christ. The results are not intended (and should not) replace the primary guidance of Scripture, parents and counselors, even though they may help to supplement decisions made pursuant to that guidance. Hope that makes sense!

  22. robin ross Says:

what a GREAT project! thank you so much for your long work on this!! we can’t wait to see the results and pass them on to our girls at youth group, college and career group, and camp ministries!

  23. eliya Says:

Hey you guys this looks really cool. I just joined a few days ago & am really exited to see how it turns out. I have often wonderd where to draw the line in clothing, especially since the fashions seem to be going more downhill everyday. The sad thing is, most of the not - so - appropriate clothes are cool, & you really want to wear them. Seeing as I dont have a brother to ask about my clothing, it will be nice to have my christian brothers help out.
Thanks a lot1 This is rad!

  24. Mary Beth Says:

I’m so excited about this and I absolutely CANNOT wait for the results! Thanks to everybody who’s putting so much hard work into this. It will be very much appreciated. ^_^

  25. Becky Simmons Says:

Thank you guy/girlies for all the work you’ve put into this.
    I’m excited I can’t wait!

  26. Caleb Says:

Perhaps I’ve overlooked it, but do you have a date set as a goal for the survey to be ready?

Regardless, I’m looking forward to it.

    Thanks again,
    ~Caleb

  27. Stephanie Amber Says:

I can’t wait for this to be finished! It is going to be so helpful. :-)

  28. Brittany Says:

When it is available please guys take the survey! Us girls really want to hear from you. The results won’t be the same if only a few guys take it. We want all of your advice and I am sure at one time or another you have wanted to give it. Well now you can! Thank you everyone who has put so much work and effort into this.

  29. ( : Kate : ) Says:

Eliya: You said you don’t have a brother to ask about your clothing, neither do I! But the Lord has let me see that my father has some sound advice on this subject! Even if I don’t ask Dad directly, “Could this be a stumbling block to a brother in Christ?” he knows that I want to be a blessing to others, not trip them up. Whenever I get clothing Dad gets to see it before I wear it out of the house. (Not every bit of clothing is viewed; some things are obviously ok.) Through the grace of the Almighty, my heart is submitted to the will of the father He’s placed over me. Our fathers can give us tons of help and advice if we have not been blessed with brothers who can do so! Then again, even if we have brothers, our Dads can still be of immense help!
One thing we can do ourselves is to look in the mirror and ask, “Where are my eyes drawn?” Our clothing, walk, attitude, and spirit should direct other people’s gazes to our eyes. This is also another easy question to ask others too! When you walk into the room, ask him/her where their eyes were drawn first! These are just some ideas that the Lord has shown me, and I pray that they’re encouraging to you!

Thanks a million for doing this survey! I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to hearing all of the questions and answers! May I add a word of caution concerning the “photo-illustrations of each item of clothing referenced in the submitted questions.” Please be reflective and select photos that will not be defiling. (Matt.18:6-7) I clearly understand how some illustrations could be very beneficial in making it easier for the guys to understand what is being asked, but please be careful to not show the very thing that we should divert our eyes from!
I can’t wait to see the end result!!! God bless!

Just out of curiosity, who is the veiled female in the photo? Is it a random photo or do you know who she is?

  32. Lys Says:

Looking at her, and looking at Alex and Brett, I’d guess it’s a relative.

But don’t count on any real information. I wouldn’t tell some random guy all about my sister/cousin/friend/whatever.

Or maybe it’s stock photography. There’s websites where you can check that sort of thing. I just don’t know any addresses.

Back on topic, I think it will be interesting to read the results of this exercise. I doubt it will change much about how I dress, but I’ll be reading it all the same.

Alex, Brett, Candace (hehe! A, B, C!)- be sure to get plenty of rest and food while working!

  33. Katrina Rowe Says:

The photo is a stock photo. No relation to Alex and Brett.

  34. Charlene V. Says:

To all who are working on this survey; Thanks. I Really cannot wait to see it.

    God bless.
