New Attitude 2007: Celebrating Humble Orthodoxy
There are few events that get Brett and me more excited than New Attitude, and we are particularly excited about this year’s conference. From its message of “humble orthodoxy” and discernment, to the passionate worship and intimate small groups, to the spectacular lineup of Joshua Harris, CJ Mahaney, Eric Simmons, Al Mohler, Mark Dever, and John Piper, New Attitude 2007 promises to be incredible.
What is humble orthodoxy?
Humble orthodoxy is a commitment to believing, living, and representing the truth with humility. We believe that God’s truth in Scripture should not be redefined or reinvented to suit our own preferences or culture. Our role is not to change truth but to let truth change us.
What is discernment?
We want to become those who “have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil” (Hebrews 5:14). Discernment is looking closely at what we believe, the culture we absorb, the motives of our hearts, what we think and do and say, in light of God’s Word.
Brett and I will be in Louisville, Kentucky over Memorial Day Weekend (May 26-29) as the official live-bloggers of New Attitude 2007. We’ve even been offered a room for a rebelutionary get-together at some point during the conference (more info to come), a time to connect, pray and fellowship. We’d love to see you there.
2007 message topics:
- How do we discern what is primary and secondary doctrine?
- How do we discern what to accept, reject, and adapt to in our culture?
- How does our conscience fit into a practice of discernment?
- How do we discern the motives of our own hearts?
Registration is open to singles of all ages (17-year-old graduating high school seniors and up) and young married couples. And of course, when you register, be sure to select Blog - The Rebelution as how you heard about New Attitude. Planning to attend? Leave a comment and let us know. We can’t wait to meet you.

Wow, so wish I could go. Every time I get on this website I get this strong desire to do something great for God. I’ve never heard of New Attitude before but it looks really great!

I’ll be there, and I’m crazy excited! I can’t wait to see what our awesome God’s got in store! I look very forward to at least seeing you guys in person or possibly even getting to thank you face to face for the glory you both are faithfully giving to God through your Christ-centered focus and passionate delight in God’s grace and this great salvation. I am consistantly stirred up and built up by your practice of humble orthodoxy, both in your posts and your comments, and look very forward to worshipping and growing alongside both of you and so many other Rebelutionaries at Na. What a sweet privilege!
Na 2007 here I come!

Louisville is just a hop skip and a jump from where I live. May have to consider asking the parents about coming over and seeing you guys. Of course I’m too young for New Attitude.:P Since it’s only a 5 hour drive, ya think my parents would mind driving me over? B).

The distance isn’t an issue this year… but the date is, as it is when the homeschoolers in this area are graduating. =/ All y’all should just travel to my house for the fellowship…
March 3rd, 2007 at 3:24 am
Wow! Those are some tough questions! I can’t wait to hear your conclusions.

Joshua Harris, CJ Mahaney, Eric Simmons, Al Mohler, Mark Dever, and John Piper–sounds fantastic!
But you have to be at least 17 to go? Well, I guess that just makes it easier for me to resign myself to not attending the conference, since the time and location make my going quite impracticable. Do you know if videos from the conference will be available?
March 3rd, 2007 at 8:48 am
Aw man, what words can describe my extreme excitement!
NA is more than a conference, its truly a taste of the AWESOME power of God, humbly displayed through speakers like your Brother, Josh, through other men like CJ, Eric Simmons, Al Mohler, Mark Dever, and John Piper, through worship leaders like Devon Kauflin, through the deep theological discussions in the small groups. I can not wait to see God’s glory displayed at NA this year! I pray that HE would already begin to do a work in our hearts, that we may be soft and pliable before him. That we may be broken, and receive, being more than willing to receive what he has in store, that we would be starving and Hungry for the glory of God to be displayed in and through us and those around us.
Bret & Alex, I hope to meet yall at NA and personally be able to thank you for how you SO CLEARLY present the Gospel, thank you for finding creative ways to bring others to Christ, this more than blesses me, it encourages me to follow suit and be purposeful and creative in presenting the Gospel daily.
God Bless and I’ll see you in Kentucky.

Official live-bloggers! Congratulations! I hope to see you guys there.
“Do you know if videos from the conference will be available?”
–I’m not aware of any videos other than the promo one, but messages from past NA conferences are available. You can even download
all fourteen of last year’s messages for only $10. I did this, and am really being blessed by them–even though I was at the conference and already heard them.

Is the lineup of speakers even legal? That’s just too much wisdom in one place.
In a culture where “orthodoxy” means “stagnation”, and “discernment” means “legalism”, this should be a valuable addition to the thinking of all who hear. I hope I get to attend.

I hope to be there! They teaching is going to be amazing. I’ve only heard about it, but I know God uses this conference to work in lives. If you don’t know what Na is, go check it out!

I was extremely blessed - my parents signed me up for my birthday present this year, and I really can’t wait. This will be MY first year, but of course others from my church have gone before and they come back so blessed…yes, I really can’t wait!
That would be very neat to have a rebelutionary get-together, and would be great to meet you guys for real! Your blog has blessed me since the first time I laid eyes on it selfishly for the Jamestown 400 hunt!

Just proof that God’s ways are so much higher than ours, and he can use even our selfish desires to bring about his will for us.
Thanks again!

Oooh… what great speakers! And topics too! Wow. I would absolutely love to go. Unfortunately I think I’m already pretty booked for conferences/camps this summer. But if I’m 17 and not graduating till NEXT year, wouldn’t that kind of rule me out? Well, regardless, I think I’m going to plan on going to next year’s conference. I’m bummed to miss this year’s though. I’ll definitely be checking back in here with you official live-bloggers a lot the week end of the conference.

That sounds so cool! I wish I could go but I’m stuck on the other side of the world.
Do they have this in New Zealand by any chance?
March 4th, 2007 at 3:29 pm
Wow, that is so cool. Someday it will be really fun to go! Unfortunatly, I live miles away, and am 3 years under 17.
Someday…!
Everyone who goes..wow, hope you all have a great time!
March 4th, 2007 at 6:41 pm
Well, I won’t be going (I’m only 14 almost 15), but my mom (she is a single mom) is going. I’ve heard that it is a excellent conference and I am looking forward to the day when I can go!
March 5th, 2007 at 10:18 am
I would love to go, but unfortunately I fall beneath 17 by less than 6 months. So I won’t be able to go. Another disappointment is that Louisville, KY is less than 3hrs. away from where I live, knowing that it is relatively close and not reach the age requirement is disappointing.
It wouldn’t be so bad if I would be able to go to a conference, but I’m in the Midwest and Georgia is to far to go. I would love to go to one, but the chances are probably pretty slim on that happening. At least this year anyway. Maybe next year I can go to something.
Keep up the good work! God Bless
March 5th, 2007 at 10:55 am
Wow that looks amazing! There are some amazing speakers coming. Okay I turn 17 three months after the conference, Think they’d let me in?
March 5th, 2007 at 2:45 pm
Hey, Brett and Alex, if I were you I’d construct at least a small article for New Attitude on wikipedia. Right now all I can find is a paragraph about a sitcom. Just a thought. I don’t know enough about New Attitude to construct it myself.
March 6th, 2007 at 3:12 pm
I’d love to go, but seeing as I live on the other side of the country, (Oregon) the tickets and hotel would be too expensive. Maybe next year I could organize a group of young people, a few chaperones, and we could head down together…who knows? I’m not even seventeen…yet! couple more months. It’s sounds fun though. I hope everyone that’s going has a good time!!!
Why do you have to be seventeen, anyway? Maturity? Or is there just not enough space? Because there’s not much difference between 16 & 17…
March 9th, 2007 at 6:15 am
Lucy - To answer your question, the conference’s age requirement is for 17-year-old graduating seniors. This is because it’s technically for singles (and this year, young marrieds) as opposed to high schoolers. I’m sure someone else could present that with a better, fuller explanation, but there’s the bare basics.
March 9th, 2007 at 10:38 am
Thanks Sarah! It makes sense now…
March 13th, 2007 at 11:55 am
I was looking up info about the NA conference and it said to register by May 7th(if I read correctly) and you said (Alex and Brett) you would be there during the conference March 26-29. Is that right, or did I misunderstand? I’m confused. What happens when and where. If you could clear that up for me that would be great.

Amanda: I think you’re confused about the actual dates of the conference. It is Memorial Day Weekend (May 26-29) not March 26-29. Hope that clears things up. We look forward to seeing you there.
March 13th, 2007 at 1:54 pm
My sister Sarah and I will be there. Looking forward some GREAT teaching, and to meeting you all!
March 15th, 2007 at 7:52 am
Thanks Brett. That did clear things up for me. Unfortunately I won’t be able to attend since I’m not yet a graduating high-schooler. I was asking because my mom would like my older brother and dad to go and asked me to find out the info.
Thanks again for taking the time to clear that up for me.

I will be attending Na for the first time! My brother and sister-in-law are coming with me as well (my brother was a contributor to the Modesty Survey answers).
