Listened to the clips WOW…….and OUCH. Particualry Brett’s session the complusive shopper and spell check.. Goodness that swiftly convicted me. How this message is needed all over the world, not just confined for the United States.
By the way Brett loved your mimicing of a girl. Made me laugh!

I listened to one of the audio samples, and was shocked. My family has always done “hard things”, and I did not know just how low the expectations of our culture were. I wasn’t able to come to the conference because I had just finished being the “mom” to our family for eight days while my mom and sister were at the Jamestown event. The next week (besides recovering) I helped with our building project painting trim, sealing grout, painting a room, besides cleaning house, and cooking for our weekly fellowship meal. I had no idea that most teens are only expected to make their beds, clean their rooms, do a chore etc… Knowing that, now, makes me ever so much more grateful for my parents, and their expectations of me.

I would like to reply to your “do hard things” post. Recently, I have been reading “The Radical Cross” by A.W.Tozer(You should read it if you haven’t already). I came across this quote:
“Though the cross of Christ has been beautified by the poet and the artist, the avid seeker after God is likely to find it the same savage implement of destruction it was in the days of old. The way of the cross is still the pain-wracked path to spiritual power and fruitfulness.
So do not seek to hide from it. Do not accept an easy way. Do not allow yourself to be patted to sleep in a comfortable church, void of power and barren of fruit. Do not paint the cross nor deck it with flowers. Take it for what it is, as it is, and you will find it the rugged way of death and life. Let it slay you utterly.”

I think the hardness of any issue is our flesh. Our flesh is what causes us to tremble at the idea of doing hard things. We are afraid that we will fail, and sometimes we know we will. So why, you ask, would we even think of doing something that may ruin us? I think of the verse “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.” ~Matthew 16:25
We do hard things because that is what Christ wanted us to do. I can think of a numerous amount of hard things that God commanded us to do, which seem quite impossible. We can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens us though…With God all things are possible.

I also believe that doing hard things brings us closer to God. Think of Abraham and how he was told to sacrifice his only son. That was quite the hard thing! I think of my life and how little those “hard things” that I did seem compared to those executed in the Bible. I think of how Jesus withstood the temptations of Satan, and how Paul stood with boldness. Think about it…the Bible is full of illustrations of real people doing hard things! These people wanted to KNOW God, and through their doing of hard things, they were brought closer to Him. If me doing hard things brings me closer to the Creator of the universe, then certainly will I do hard things for Him.

Anyway, I just wanted to send you my 2 cents on that topic. There is much more that I could and should have written, but time does not permit me to do so. Also, I think it would be rad if you guys could come and do a conference in Oregon.(o: Keep looking up for the coming of our blessed Lord! Much love…

That’s neat! The fact that you might be recording the tour completely skipped my mind. Once they are available, it will be like I actually WAS able to go…almost. Not quite the same thing, but still better than nothing!
