WILL BE!!!!!!
November 9th, 2007 at 12:31 pm
I’ve been voting every time I get a chance. And I’m praying you win!
November 9th, 2007 at 12:36 pm
I AM!!! Come on guys we can help him win!
November 9th, 2007 at 1:25 pm
OK, I just figured it out: if twenty people vote twenty times at the top of every hour, on Saturday, that will amount to 4,800 votes. Anyone who feels like it, please do!
November 9th, 2007 at 2:08 pm
Yikes! I’m heading over there now…
November 9th, 2007 at 2:12 pm
This young man is is earnestly being prayed for!!!
November 9th, 2007 at 2:21 pm
ok..Emma, I’ll try to
November 9th, 2007 at 2:53 pm
Please, don’t anyone feel like I’m trying to boss them around
Sorry if it sounded like it!!!
November 9th, 2007 at 3:08 pm
no you didn’t! It’s a good idea!
November 9th, 2007 at 3:40 pm
First place is pulling away…..
November 9th, 2007 at 6:16 pm
Count me in! Still praying…
November 10th, 2007 at 7:46 am
count me in also
November 10th, 2007 at 10:10 am
I’ve been voting for the last 20 minutes. 1 person can vote about 27 time per five minutes(when they refresh the count). However, Pat receives 33-45 votes in the same amount of time. She is currently 6909 vote ahead, and gaining. I can vote for another hour before I have to go do homework. I hope to come back for another hour later. Anybody want to join me?
November 10th, 2007 at 11:07 am
Pat is now 7138 ahead of Zach. 1 person can vote times an hour. Can 20 people commit a half hour a day to voting? That would be 3240 votes a day.
November 10th, 2007 at 12:24 pm
I’m voting too, but I can only get in about 9 votes in five minutes. (Our internet connection is slow, so it takes a long time to refresh the page.) If anyone else has this problem, you can always read while you wait for it to pull up again.
November 10th, 2007 at 12:45 pm
All of you guys are incredible! Whatever the result, I know Zach will be forever grateful for your strong support.
November 10th, 2007 at 1:39 pm
I’ve been voting. I sure hope Zach wins.
November 10th, 2007 at 2:31 pm
Our pastor (he is also a computer programmer and thinks about doing things like the following) voted for 3 hours, and while he did it kept track of how the site updates and talleys the votes. He noted it updates every 10 minutes and apparently tracks the computers that place the votes, only allowing a certain number of votes within a 10 minute time frame to be counted from that computer. He placed something like 30 votes in a 10 minute span and only 4 appeared to be counted. Either that, or the voting tabulation is rigged, which I hope is not the case.
Also- Does anyone know anything about Ryan, the young man who is doing the water thing? I just wondered if maybe he was a Believer, also.
It goes without saying that each of the young people named are doing laudable works. He and Zach, though particularly seemed to be doing things in a truly ‘altruistic’ manner… as in they have nothing personally to gain and no personal stake in what they are giving themselves to. I believe that is VERY worthy of honor.
November 10th, 2007 at 3:08 pm
I’ve been voting! And praying that Zach wins!
November 10th, 2007 at 3:13 pm
This is awesome people! It is very neat to see everybaody coming together to support a fellow rebelutionary. Let’s keep the good work. Still voting and praying

Mrs. Gruber, I’m afraid you may be right. CNN said you can vote as often as you like, but it doesn’t seem like it is actually allowing that. My prediction is that we’d be over 20,000 votes if that were the case.
November 10th, 2007 at 6:38 pm
Hey Everyone! Zach is behind by 16% in the polls. Let’s give him a huge boost tonight!
November 10th, 2007 at 7:16 pm
Hey! I have been trying to vote a bunch, but the percentages don’t seem to be changing! What’s up? Am I doing it right? I am clicking Zach’s check mark box,and clicking vote.
Let me know!
November 10th, 2007 at 7:38 pm
Oh,and the percentages were the same today as yesterday!
They are acting like they won’t let people vote anymore:(
November 10th, 2007 at 8:28 pm
I’ve been working on the computer, and have voted at intervals pretty much all day! I think Courtney’s right, though, God will bless Zach and his cause in any way he chooses!
Also, Zach, I think you could really reel in a lot more votes if you posted about it on your myspace. Judging by the number of “friends” you have, and the fact that they all have myspaces that they could post about this on, it certainly could generate results!
Praying for all of you!
November 11th, 2007 at 7:38 am
Alright, it looks like we need a new strategy. If it only counts 4 votes from any given computer for each ten minutes, there’s no reason to vote more until the results update again. So, maybe people could try to get in their 4 votes, wait ten minutes, vote 4 more times, and keep going like this. The update times seem to be synchronized with the clock.
November 11th, 2007 at 8:04 am
Actually, I think it might only allow one vote per computer per ten minutes. As I have been voting, I noticed another time when the updated results only showed an increase of one vote for Zach, even though I had voted several times. Only allowing one vote seems to make more sense that an arbitrary cutoff at four.
November 11th, 2007 at 12:45 pm
I think we should e-mail people we know and ask them to vote since it seems like the polls keep track of how many times a computer votes. If we do this we’ll have more computers involved. That’s just an idea.
November 11th, 2007 at 5:50 pm
I sent an e-mail to around 17 people.
If God is for Zach winning than who can be against us,
but even though I REELY want Zach to win,I want God’s will
to be done.
Praying for you Zach!
November 11th, 2007 at 6:13 pm
Urg!!! I had voted like 60 times, and it counted less than 4!!! >:o(
Well, even though the CNN numbers don’t show it correctly, we are all very supportive of Zach’s efforts and ministry. God bless you greatly Zach Hunter!

November 11th, 2007 at 6:17 pm
It probably IS only max one vote per computer in 10 minutes. The four votes my pastor noted as tallied were probably from 4 DIFFERENT computers voting during that 10 minute period. So few increases are ocurring, though, with so MANY people saying they are casting votes, I wonder if it is only one vote per computer PERIOD that is being counted. As in you can vote every 10 minutes but only the first vote cast from that computer is being counted and ALL the following votes get disregarded? In any event I clicked on “contact us” and complained to CNN for the way the entire tally system is set up. Perhaps more people ought to complain?
November 11th, 2007 at 7:27 pm
Wow! I think there is something to these votes, although I hadn’t noticed it too badly. I spent way over an hour in two browsers with a fast connection, and my sister was doing the same thing. Our fingers were flying!
Total in that time we only saw a few hundred votes in increase. I can promise you we did much more. But I did send an e-mail to way over 100 people, and that got forwarded to at least all the employees at Dell in Austin, Texas, to my knowledge. Anyway, I think we need to keep plowing on. No matter what happens with CNN, nobody can doubt that there is something about Zach that demands attention. I mean, think about all the other people who come to vote for someone else…
Also, Zach, I am only assuming you’re aware of The Better Hour contest. I found out about it and thought of you, but then I saw your book on the contest information page. So old news maybe.
I’m still praying for you! If nothing else, this voting stuff has moved you into my daily prayers. I think we’re all more aware of your ministry in an everyday sense now. May God continue to bless you super abundantly!
In Charity,
Adrienne

Does anyone know how many days we have left to vote?
Carly D.
November 11th, 2007 at 8:57 pm
Carly- we have until tomorrow (Monday) at noon. That is in about 13 hrs… I am so upset about this whole voting thing… We can vote unlimited- oh wait, no just once every ten minutes? hello! that doesn’t sound quite right. Once every ten minutes is definitely NOT unlimited! Oh well, maybe we should tell CNN what we think- make our voice heard.
Zach’s down 10,000… it will take a miracle for him to ever make it. So, I am praying for a miracle. AND God’s will. That’s the key- God’s will…
November 11th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
I think the CNN website said something along the lines of it ending around 11:30 a.m or noon tomorrow.
November 11th, 2007 at 9:10 pm
edit- 9,591 votes behind… I just wrote CNN a nice complain letter so we will see what they have to say about it…
November 11th, 2007 at 9:13 pm
Nevermind the above comment of mine… When I refreshed the page something odd happened and I didn’t see Courtney’s comment. Hmmm. I’m not really sure why. Strange……….
In His Service,

I just voted 30 times in ten minutes, and the votes only increased by 4. Praying for God’s will to be done. Zach whether you win or not, I think what your doing is great! Keep it up!

This is the answer I received from CNN regarding my concerns about their polling practices: {It is permissible for users to vote more than once in the CNN Heroes”Viewers’ Choice” online poll. CNN.com does not block IP addresses toprevent repeat voting. However, security measures are in place to restrict the number of timesa day any user may vote from the same computer. These measures areapplied uniformly and are intended to protect the integrity of thepolling process. As noted in the Legal Disclosures, “use of any script, macro or otherautomated means of entry are prohibited” and “CNN reserves the right inits sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers with theentry process and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the AwardsProgram.”}
November 12th, 2007 at 7:12 am
Good morning, all. Zach’s mom, Penny here. We checked in with CNN multiple times to ask about the voting issue. While it seemed that other tallies were moving up quickly, we know there were large groups of students who were voting during specific periods of time and the tallies were not moving up at an appropriate rate in Zach’s section. They assured us that they had a safeguard in place that would keep someone from automating voting but that was it.
Thank you for your heroic efforts to vote for Zach — but more importantly, for opening your heart to know the truth about what’s happening to our neighbors around the world who are suffering. Zach will be posting something here this afternoon (thanks Brett and Alex for allowing this.) God bless you all as you fix your eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfector of our faith and the One who was anointed to preach the good news to the poor, affilicted and oppressed.

Well I guess that nullifies the home-schooler advantage of not keeping office hours.
Joanie could you write back and ask what the limit per computer per day is?
November 12th, 2007 at 9:15 am
Well…however the voting works make sure you vote when you can. He is losing ground (trailing by 20%) so we need to give him a big boost.
Don’t forget to spread the word to your friends. That’s the best way to win.
November 12th, 2007 at 9:21 am
Very true Mark, I sent an e-mail to my sister at Patrick Henry Collage. Maybe some of the students will help.
November 12th, 2007 at 10:22 am
The voting is over, and Zach didn’t make it. He was around 15, 500 and Pat Pedraja was around 25, 600.
November 12th, 2007 at 10:47 am
I’m so sorry
:(
:(
On another note, is Pat Pedraja a guy or a girl? I couldn’t tell by looking at the picture on there.
November 12th, 2007 at 11:14 am
[quote]Pat Pedraja
When leukemia patient Pat Pedraja, 12, learned that minorities like [b]himself[/b] make up less than a third of the U.S. bone marrow registry he started Driving for Donors. He travels the country to encourage minorities to register. This year, he signed up more than 5,000 donors in three months.[/quote]
Looks like Pat is a guy.

Looks like Pat is a guy.
(sorry for the duplicate post - I guess BB code doesn’t work on this blog - I wonder if html does)
November 12th, 2007 at 12:44 pm
I’m sad that he didn’t win…on the upside though, if CNN had truly counted every vote, Zach probably would have won by a landslide.
This is sorta a weird question, but any idea what minority he [Pa tPedraja] is?
November 12th, 2007 at 1:24 pm
Elisabeth-I think He said He was half Hispanic.

Hi Rebelutionaries!
Thank you all for voting on the CNN Heroes site. It really means a lot that people I don’t even know would take the time to do this (and it sounds like some of you spent a LOT of time voting!) I was really impressed by the work of the other nominees and I’m glad that CNN has given us all a platform to bring attention to the important work being done by this generation. But, I’m sure there are many other young people out there doing even more incredible work that will never get noticed.
Please pray for Pat. I got a message from him online last week and he was at the hospital getting chemotherapy. I think this is part of his regular, ongoing treatment for leukemia.
May all of you grow to view service around the world and in your communities as an extension of your faith in Jesus Christ. Stay grounded in His Word and let your light shine before men so they will see your good deeds and glorify you Father who is in heaven.
I’m grateful to you all,
Zach
