rebelling against low expectations

The Rebelution on National TV

T

Quite to our amazement, the Rebelution was mentioned tonight on the FOX News show On the Record with Greta Van Susteren — and again in this video.

First-time visitors, be sure to start with the About the Rebelution page.

NOTE: The endorsement mentioned in the above interview is by Brett and me personally, and is not made in our capacity as directors of the Rebelution.

  • Brett and Alex,

I admire your initiative and diligence in campaigning, which the Lord used to help introduce a candidate to a high-profile endorser. It reminds me of the principle taught in Proverbs 22:29. “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings;”

    May God bless your faithfulness,

    Bryce

P.S. I realize this isn’t a political blog, but you really should personally consider researching and supporting the other candidate….Ron Paul. 🙂

  • Hi guys. So excited to see you mentioned on Greta’s show. Love Chuck Norris. How awesome to see that you played a part in his deciding to endorse Mike Huckabee! I used to live up in your neck of the woods. Met your parents ages ago when my sister worked for them, and babysat your big bro. Love your website and blog. I don’t know you, but am proud of what you and your brother are doing. Thanks for being light, and salt.

  • It was enough for me to investigate. I shall have to mention your website to my 20 and 23 year old “kids”. If you are “okay” with Chuck Norris, you’re okay with me

  • That is so absolutely, completely, and most definitely fantastic!!! :o) :o) :o)

We are so incredibly glad that the Lord used your guys’ letters to Mr. Norris to so greatly interest him in Mr.Huckabee’s campaign! I doubt that he (Huckabee) would have gotten that interview if it were not for Chuck Norris’ endorsement, which he would not have received if you guys had not sent those letters to Mr. Norris.

    In His Service,
    ~Elisabeth J. and Kirsten A. Gruber

  • I originally found your site because of the modesty survey (which is fascinating, by the way), so when I heard your names on the Greta interview, I knew exactly who Chuck was talking about. Your brother Josh made a huge difference in my life through his books when I was younger. Now you two are making an impact on my younger sisters.

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity.”- 1Tim. 4:12 (NIV)

You guys are AWESOME, and you are great examples of this verse. One email from you may have changed this campaign. You guys rock!

  • Thanks for being careful not to associate the rebelution itself to this candidate. Christians have to be very careful when they associate themselves or Christianity with politicians. History is too full of instances where Christianity gained a bad name because of it.

  • Hey Alex and Brett, I just commented on Facebook…but I just wanted to say here that it is awesome that you two are passionate about what you believe, and are committed to sharing truth with anyone who will listen.

God is obviously using you guys to make a difference in many ways…and with this election, it is just amazing to see how “two teenage twins” can potentially impact our nation!

    Way to go.
    Do Hard Things.

    ~Lady Tai

  • *laughs* You guys sure come up with creative ways to get the word around.

(But you should seriously consider checking out Duncan Hunter. Huckabee’s a good speaker, I’ll grant you that, but I believe Duncan Hunter is unparallelled on the issues, such as protecting life, family, national sovereignty, fair trade, immigration, balanced budget, and private health care, to name a few.)

And that’s neat that The Rebelution site was mentioned on TV!

  • That’s awesome; I bet y’all were surprised! I’ll have to start researching more about Mike Huckabee now. 😉 😀
I’ll be praying that maybe this will open new doors for y’all, or open other teens’ hearts who come visit the Rebelution.

  • Congrats on working hard for the candidate you think is the best for this country, and also on the spread of your message!

(Though… I think Ron Paul is much more conservative, and would be a more effective uniter and leader of this country. Check him out too!)

    -Nathan

  • For Bryce: Please check out Randy Alcorn’s website about Ron Paul

    and
ihearthuckabee.blogspot.com Alex, Brett and Joel’s personal political website

God bless you Alex and Brett! May God continue to use you mightily for His kingdom!
Our family is praying for your family while you’re in Japan! Say hello to them from us!
    Cobe and Scarlett and Family

  • That is really great!! I love that God used your letter, since you’re teenagers, to get Chuck Norris’ attention! VERY cool! And way to go supporting your candidate and being involved in the process! God uses us as He desires to accomplish His will and purposes, no matter our age or status. Excellent job!! Y’all are great examples!

  • Hello! I guess we aren’t supposed to be discussing politics too much around here, but of course it’s not like comment sections can be controlled by an organization when they are open to the public. I just wanted to voice my leaning toward Ron Paul, too, and I hope to see more of you guys out there! 🙂 To the Hucakbee fans—you’re doing a great job getting the word out. That’s what I suggest for the rest of us to get out and do. Thanks for your encouragment Alex and Brett! This election needs no more apathy, especially among the supposed-do-hard-thing-ranks. Let’s go turn the world upside down!

    Blessings,
    Adrienne

  • Cobe and Scarlett;
I am in agreement with Elisabeth…thank you for listing Randy Alcorn’s site….it was very informative and helpful.

    ~H.

  • Didn’t you guys have a personal blog discussing politics? I thought I remembered going to it but I can’t find it anymore.

  • Didn’t you all state in an earlier post that you would not be publically endorsing any one candidate?

This video misleads your readers if such is the case.

  • Ali: We didn’t actually email Chuck Norris directly — we sent it to a good friend of ours who passed it on to Mr. Norris. We knew we had read it, but we didn’t know how big of a role it played.

Caitlin: I think what you’re referring to is when we said that we could not endorse a candidate on this website or as the directors of the Rebelution — that is still true. Our reason for sharing this video was because the mention of the Rebelution and because it is an example of the impact young people can have.

  • Quite impressive! I’m another Ron Paul supporter, but I have to comend you on the job you Huckabee people have been doing! May the best man win! 😀

  • How neat! Congratulations and well-done! What a great plug for rebelution type teens who believe they can be influential here and now!

    Very cool!

    ~ Carlin

  • Just one letter.

It’s just another example of how low expectations are…He said what attracted him in the first place was that two young people were passionate enough about it too write a letter. It’s so easy to write and send a letter, but few teenagers ever bother.

  • AH, okay.

Oh! And I forgot to send my congratulations for making the News and getting a mention from Chuck Norris.

    Amazing stuff, guys.

    God Bless.

  • Considering my older brother used to tell me Chuck Norris jokes every single day, this was very cool. Keep shining your light for God and I will be keeping you in my prayers.

    1st Timothy 4:12

  • Just in case people thought I was trying to put a dampener on things–I’m not. I thinks it’s awesome. 😉 I wasn’t trying to give a lecture…it was more of a reminder to myself.

  • I was just curious, what is your mother’s original nationality? Is she Japanese?

Hope you are having a good time and great work!! Congrats!

  • Woa!!! I must have watched that video, like, twenty times when it was first posted on their website. I had no idea that you guys were, at least partially, behind it! How cool is that!?!

    Keep up the good work!

    Valerie

  • Well, now that I know who Chuck Norris is, this is an interesting development isn’t it? Very cool!
BTW: keep mentioning people, then I have to look them up 😉

  • Probably the coolest thing about this post…is the comment section – even though we have a number of people who support other candidates, the nastiness seen so often in politics is not present; everyone is communicating with grace. 🙂 Praise God! 🙂

  • LOVE what you are doing for the Lord and for the world……….Great website…..I see God decided to get you on Fox primetime, too.. (that’s how I heard about your website…..Great Van Susteren has a link to here on her Gretawire blog……..ANYWAY I wanted to say……. You have to stop by The Vineyard Church in Columbus, Ohio…….every Sunday night @ 6p there are a thousand or so teens to twenties who are on fire for the Lord that you could TOTALLY relat to !!!! AND we would LOVE YOU!!!

GO HUCK !!!!!! (GO BUCKS 🙂 ) In Christ, Margot

  • Wow!! That is SO GREAT, Alex and Brett!! Keep up the amazing work! I am really excited about this upcoming election (and I completely agree with the candidate you support as well!) …. As you said, this election will go down in history.

I’ve been reading your blog for some time (I found the link on the blog of a friend I took an online class with), and you all have some wonderful points. Your posts are so inspiring! I’ve never met either of you before, but many of my friends participated at a speech tournament with you in Seattle. They said that you won everything :-).

Well, I just wanted to show my support for you and for Huckabee. And hopefully I can come to your tour in Portland!

  • wow!!
yeah huckabee’s cool. he’s funny but passionate about this country and where we should be headed. i like how he emphasized respecting other views and working together, but notice he’s not ‘compromising’.

  • […] Chuck Norris is living proof that blogging has dramatically impacted Huckabee’s campaign. Recently he added his support to Huckabee, and helped create some fascinating and unique campaign ads. Right around the time Chuck gave his support, Huckabee’s campaign started surging forward at an incredible pace. In his own words, Chuck Norris said he started thinking of Huckabee largely because of an email from two teenage bloggers, Alex and Brett Harris of The Rebelution. (This video will show you both a Norris ad, and his discussion of blogs and the web influencing him to support Huckabee.) […]

  • That is awesome! I know you guys aren’t giving a public endorsement…but I’ve got to wonder, why not?
Endorsing a candidate for President, especially when you find one (like Huckabee!) that has such strong moral values and leadership qualities, could be the greatest help to his campaign.

Take Chuck Norris for example! Anyway, just wondering.
God bless…and I am glad I found your website, I will definitely stop by again. 🙂

  • I believe that Alex and Brett personally would like to see Huckabee elected. Because The Rebelution is a non-profit organization, and of various legal mumbo-jumbo, they cannot endorse Huckabee as the Harris Brothers, directors of The Rebelution. Basically, they can’t tell us to vote for him!

  • We’ve been praying for you all. Praise God for all that He is doing through The Rebelution. May HE and He alone get all the glory and honor and praise!

  • I read over the issues section on Mike Huckabee’s site, and I agreed with almost everything he said except his foreign policy. It’s so sad that American Christians seem to think they should support the political state of Israel no matter what, that Muslims are the great enemy, or that they’re in a new “world war”. I will e-mail Alex and Brett about this.

  • David Daniel:

In regards to what you had said about Muslims being an enemy:
The fact is, the Muslims are wanting to CONVERT us or KILL us. The Quran clearly says that Muslims must not stop their holy wars until all the “infidels” (that’s us… the Christians and the Jews [especially]) are either converted or executed. (I recommend reading “Unveiling Islam” by the Caner brothers) They aren’t just waging war against us as people, they are waging war against Christianity itself. And the Muslims in the Middle East are trying to utterly destroy Israel as a nation.

  • This was a great idea! The world of blogs is becoming a powerful voice and networking system to connect people that share values and to send important messages. I am considering endorsing Mr. Huckabee on my own blog, but I’d like to do a little more research. He sounds like a wonderful choice so far!

Thank you so much for serving the Lord with your time and talents! I am so grateful for the impact the Rebelution has had on my life.

    In Christ,
    Carmen

  • As a parent of a 13 year old son, I applaud you for standing up for what you believe and not being afraid to voice it! I’m am thrilled that I have found a site that I can share and discuss with my son…. Like other readers, I’d also like to thank you for serving the Lord in the way that you are doing and for setting such a good example to other teenagers….

  • How cool! That reminds me that I need to start researching for these coming elections. What are you guys doing to research?
This is kind of off topic but I thought my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ need to know what happened to our spiritual family in Colorado last sunday. Several people were shot and some were killed in Arvada and Colorado Springs. I ask that you pray for the families of those who were killed as well as the family of one of the gunman who also died. Thanks. One of the families lost two daughters and the husband is in the hospital. Please pray for them.
    Hillary

  • For an interesting read on US foreign policy – especially in regard to the Middle East – a good read is “Where the Right Went Wrong” by Pat Buchanan.

  • I have been meaning to say this forever. Alex and Brett, what an honor to be mentioned on national tv. God has used the Rebelution in amazing capacities, and I pray that He will continue to do that.

By the way, how is the book coming along?

  • I received some VERY exciting news today!! A little background….the MI primaries are Jan 15, and I turn 18 on Jan 16!! At first I wasn’t sure that I would be able to vote in them, and then I was told I couldn’t, but today I was informed of an obscure law in MI that allows someone to vote if their birthday is the day after the the election day!! SO, I will get to vote in the primaries this year!! yay!!! 😀

  • Erika — that is so neat!! And Alex and Brett, glory be to God Who has used you so effectively! Keep yourselves as instruments in His hands, and I’ve no doubt you will continue to be used to accomplish great things for Him!

    In Christ,
    Claire

  • How very exciting, to see the impact you two had.

Our oldest daughter, now married, was impacted by your older brother. I’m happy to share your passion with our younger children now (almost 15, and 11).

What a refreshing spirit in this comment section! Very, very impressive.

  • On the surface, it may seem, for we Christians, that Huckabee is our man. However, a fundamental problem we Christians have demonstrated is our lack of discernment between “values” vs. “principle” and “personal feelings” vs. “right thinking.” The keys to this presidency is who will abide with our country’s rule of law – The Constitution – and its intent despite how a president “personally feels” or what “values’ he holds about a certain issue.

There is no question that Ron Paul is the only candidate that will do it because he has the track record of backing up his words with actions. Don’t make another mistake like we did with our current President.
