Do Hard Things T-Shirt Picture Contest
When we encouraged rebelutionaries to send us pictures of themselves wearing Do Hard Things t-shirts we had no idea they’d be so creative. Fortunately many of you have done an amazing job of “rebelling” against our low expectations.
Below are four of our favorites coming from two brother/sister teams. Take a look and then send us yours. They don’t have to be quite this fancy (and most of them aren’t). But if you want to knock our socks off too you are more than welcome.

This is a precautionary comment.
Back in the 90’s our older brother Josh often had friends of his model for the cover of his New Attitude Magazine — and sometimes he would have people write him angry letters accusing the models of being rebellious or sensual. These were always Christian girls dressed very modestly and often with very little if any makeup. Their problem? The cover was too glossy and the photos were too professional.
Good grief.
My point, of course, is that these pictures are of real rebelutionaries who visit this website and are doing hard things for the glory of God. If you have some concern about these (or any other submitted pictures) please contact Alex and me directly rather than posting it here.

I just got my shirt today!!! I was so excited!! I’m wearing it right now. =D My sister and I will have to go out and take pictures tomorrow. I love the ones Y’all posted! I think my favorite is of the girl in the field of wheat. I have a great passion for photography, and I love seeing unique pictures. We’ll see what I can come up with!

So . . . I really want a Rebelution shirt, but I’ve been holding out so far to wait for a hooded sweatshirt. Will is be a while yet or do I have to cave? ; - )

Bravo for Rebelution t-shirts! This is an excellent way to get publicity and funds at the same time. The shirt designs are very artistic and stylish, and the pictures are great. I love the one with the kids in the road.

Modesty isn’t just about makeup and clothing.
Quoting the Modesty Survey, “A girl’s physical posture and/or position can be a stumbling block. Answer: Attitude and presentation are the biggest part of modesty. Modesty is more than clothing. Half of TV advertisements will bear this response out. Posture and position are what sell a lot of music videos and pin-ups. A lot of such things are studies in how to convey the body sensually.
Question: What is the primary difference between something that is attractive and something that is immodest? Answer: Attitude. Believe it or not, even though guys cannot read girls’ minds, it isn’t hard to tell when a girl has a wrong attitude about the way she dresses.”

WOW! These are great! Me too Amanda, I think my favorite is the one in the field!

Awesome pics! Hey - just watched the Fox News Report interview of Chuck Norris’ endorsement of Huckabee - It was awesome to hear that you were the 2 young guys who had directed him to MH for a strong candidate potential. You guys rock! He also gave out your website, so I’ll be praying that leads to many more people that take a look at your pages and can be drawn to Christ.
Old people can order tee-shirts too, right?

Jed: It is a great way to spread the message but we actually don’t get much money out of the deal — especially considering how many we end up giving away.
I just wanted to mention that so people don’t think we’re just promoting them to make money.
Rebekah: You’re absolutely right. I didn’t mean to say that there weren’t other factors to consider besides makeup and clothing. In this case we happen to know the young people in the pictures (all except #3) and can personally vouch for an attitude of modesty as well.
January 7th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Colette: Thanks for the encouragement! Of course you can order a t-shirt! Everyone can/should do hard things.

January 8th, 2008 at 7:58 am
Excellent pictures
I just received my shirt yesterday and love it!
January 8th, 2008 at 9:30 am
Wow those pictures are great! I got my t-shirt yesterday as well. I love it!

Awesome pictures — I love them! Great job!
Agrees with Kyle. Ruthie has to cave.
January 8th, 2008 at 11:36 am
I can’t wait to get my shirt!
I love the fourth picture- with the wheat. They’re all really good.
January 8th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
You guys need to make a girls shirt that says “Do Hard Things” on the front. That way it won’t be in danger of being covered up by hair!
January 8th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
I just received my own T-shirt in the mail…And I am VERY happy!
The fabric isn’t thin, and the girls shirt is long enough for us girls to bend over and not have people ‘discovering’ what brand of underwear we’re wearing—A big plus. I
‘m thinking about getting another one…;)
January 8th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
Katie,
It’s actually better for the girl’s shirts to have the emblem on the back, so that it doesn’t draw attention where attention should not be drawn.
Alex and Brett,
I am glad I did order the blue one instead of the read one. I like it better then I thought I would! And it fit perfect!
January 8th, 2008 at 6:11 pm
I got my shirt on Friday, right before my 18th birthday on Saturday so it was a GREAT birthday present!!!! I am also HUGE on photography and just spent several hours transferring all my pictures from our computer onto photo CDs. (There were several thousand pictures, so you can imagine how much memory was being used…) I can’t wait to take a picture and send it in!!!
January 8th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
I LOVE that last one!
January 8th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Cool pictures! I’m inspired.
January 9th, 2008 at 6:00 am
Hey guys -
Lovely pictures!
Something my dad suggested…
He looked at the t-shirts and was like, “it just says ‘do hard things’? No Bible verse or anything? That makes it seem like the point of the Rebelution is just doing hard things because you want to and it could be any sort of secular movement.”
This isn’t implying that a Bible verse on it makes a t-shirt Christian, but just that I think it would be nice to have 1 Timothy 4:12 or another verse tied in with doing hard things on there.

Personally I am very thrilled that you made the girls shirts with the emblem on the back. When I first saw the shirts, I thought that they all had the words on the front and was slightly disapointed. (of course later I realized otherwise).
As one guy from the modesty survey said about shirts with messages on the front “Even if the message is a positive one, even a Christian one, to be able to be read it you would need to be looking directly at where guys have no business looking. This not only is a stumbling block, it’s a bit awkward.” I definitly agree.
January 10th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
Lol, this rebelling against the culture doesn’t seem like much of a rebellion. The pictures that you posted make being a rebelutionary look like being a bum/modern day teenager. I really don’t see a difference between these pictures and those that I see in Wal-mart ads.
End of rant.

Daniel: You should send in a picture. Show us how it should be done!
January 10th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
you should have people sky diving or mountain climbing wearing the shirt. or maybe just doing school. school is hard stuff too….

School is very hard!

I love the pictures ; - )
January 11th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
WOW! I was just looking at the pictures and all of a sudden I see the one with the girl in the wheat feild and for a second I freaked because that girl looks almost excactly like ME! The face, the hair and everything! I thought somehow my picture was on the site! haha! I really want a shirt! How much do they cost?
January 11th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
Your cover design for the shirts is kind of cool, but I’d have to say that I don’t think a thing about those shirts would lead people to Jesus Christ. As a matter of fact, I think the whole shirt design truly embodies the concept of a “rebelution,” although I suppose my definition of rebelution might be a little different than yours…
If we truly are supposed to be rebelling against the low-standards defined by the culture, why would we try to imitate it?
(Please don’t take this wrong; I’m just curious.)
January 11th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
Great question, M. Hopefully my answer (or at least, parts of it) is helpful to you.
First, I’m not quite sure that any t-shirt, by itself, would lead someone to Christ. What a t-shirt can do is start a conversation — and that’s something these shirts are known to do quite regularly.
Brett and I understand that some might view these shirts (or these teens) as “rebellious,” but they aren’t the people we’re trying to reach with the message of the Rebelution — and with the gospel.
The truth is that most people who are familiar with popular youth culture today would not view these photos as embodying any sort of negative teen rebellion — quite the opposite, actually.
The question has to do with whether Christians can learn from and imitate non-Christians in art. Our position is a yes — the Bible is exceedingly clear that in God’s common grace, artistic gifting and skill (among many other things) falls on believer and unbeliever alike. There is much that Christian artists can learn from non-Christian filmmakers, dancers, painters, graphic designers, photographers, etc…
The melodies to all the great Christian hymns were influenced by the popular, secular music of their time — just like our national anthem was set to a familiar bar tune.
The ‘do hard things’ shirts are high-quality, artistic shirts with a powerfully counter-cultural message in a world full of high-quality, artistic shirts with obscene, dark, and despairing messages. We’re excited by that, and we certainly don’t view it as imitating low expectations at all.

I got my shirt yesterday..and oh my! I love it so much! Not only does it have the awesome message and design- but the fabric is soft and comfy; not like most “ministry” or “camp” shirts that I have gotten. The fit is perfect. I’m convinced I’m going to need another one- as I want to wear my current one every single day!
I’ll send in some pictures soon…but thanks so much for making these shirts available!

Hey!
the pictures are great! Especially the one of the brother and sister in the middle of the road! And you girls should check out the modesty fashion contest on one of the rebelutionary websites! http://www.modesteen.com .
February 1st, 2008 at 11:39 pm
Aww these are great. The work you guys are doing is awesome, and just looking at these pictures shows that you are getting others excited about your mission, too! God bless y’all.
February 7th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
I agree with what Alex said about the t shirts to M. I think that the shirt does not actually say something about God but a lot of times I find myself asking my friends about their shirts. Usually their shirts are from a camp that they had gone to. But Just like a object in a store can catch your eye I think that that is how the shirts are.
OK. enough of my preaching. I LOVE the t shirts!!!
Brett and Alex: Did you guys come up with the awesome looks for the shirts or did some one else? just wondering. Like always.
April 8th, 2009 at 4:42 pm
I’m so glad the Rebelution has t-shirts!
I really appreciate the fact that there’s nothing on the front part of the girls wheat shirt. I do agree with Kyleigh, though, and would really like it if the wheat shirt could just have a verse reference below it. I don’t know if it’s possible to make them different at this point, but maybe you could keep it in mind when the new styles come out, which, by the way, I’m really looking forward to! Any idea when/if that will happen?
(And yes, I do realize that there hasn’t been a post here for over a year. Hopefully I’m not dragging up something that’s not supposed to be commented on anymore!)
