BreakPoint with Chuck Colson

BreakPoint, May 30, 2008 — This week on “BreakPoint,” we have been talking about teens and the particular challenges facing them. But did you know that the word teenager did not even exist until the twentieth century? That’s what teenage authors Alex and Brett Harris share in their new book called Do Hard Things, which they wrote for their fellow teenagers.
Hey all, Brett here. We’re blown away to hear a man we greatly admire (Chuck Colson) encouraging people to read our book! Let us know what you think — and make sure you rate the show so more people will have a chance to see it! We had a great time in Colorado Springs the past two days and just finished setting up for the Denver Conference (I’m actually posting from the church lobby). Hope to see many of you there! Soli deo gloria!

Another amazing interview guys! I was in the Christian bookstore today and told some people about your book. (I highly recommend you guys.) I am thrilled that your message is spreading! Praise God.

Hey we just got another issue of World Magazine with a jacket on the front of it promoting “Do Hard Things”. It’s really exciting to see this movement supported by such an amazing magazine. God bless and may he be with you at your conference, guys!

Wish I could be there…
*sigh*… Oh well… the campaign beckons!
Keep on keeping on!

Wow! I’m amazed at how quickly your message is spreading! In my opinion its a pretty cool thing when you get to do interviews with Chuck Colson and National Public Radio. I was also pleasantly surprised to hear that you guys are interested in politics. I’ve gotten some pretty strange looks when explaining my passion for discussing, and analysing politics/law through a biblical worldview, at such a “young age”. May God’s spirit continue to reside in you, and may He continue to reveal His splendor to you more and more each day! I will continue to keep you and your ministry in my prayers.
In Christ, Ahlaischa

Hey, I received my copy of World a few days ago and was so intrigued by your book that I went out and bought 5 copies to give to friends with teens and pre-teens. I just received the books today and started reading it. My husband and I have already had some good conversations about the importance of implementing this “do hard things” into our lives and our sons. They are only 8 and 11 but I don’t think it is ever too early to begin sowing into their lives this idea of pushing yourself to go beyond what is comfortable. We’ve decided what is good for them is also great for us too! (You know when you get older it is easy to get stuck in a rut and only do what is comfortable!) We are on a mission to “do hard things” ourselves and see God do over and above what we could ever expect with our family.
One last thing, I remember attending a film school a few years ago with Vision Forum in San Antonio and seeing a couple of young guys in suits over in the corner blogging the event. Was that you and your brother?

Just thinking again about what the Rebelution stands for made me think “wow, Satan really stole from people.” Imagine what a different world it could be if all the Christian teens did get up and go with God, doing “hard”, out-of-your-comfort-zone things as He leads.
Hope the conference goes well. Enjoy it all!

Very good, but is it an interview? He doesn’t ask any questions. In fact it sounds like you guys aren’t even there.

Andie and Margaret: You’re right, it’s not really an interview. I think Brett just copied the format we used for the NPR interview — I went ahead and updated it!

Awesome! I just finished reading the book and I’m new to the Do Hard Thing idea. I plan on reading it again and taking notes on certain area so I can easily recap what I have read. I have one question. When will I be able to apply for membership on the forums? It says “…please come back in a few weeks…”, but I can’t tell when that notice was added.
Anyway awesome book and I have already started doing small hard things along with looking for hard things to do. One last thing I feel like God has been preparing me to read this book for a year at least because I have been wanting do somthing other than play my favorite video games.

Hey, guys. I just wanted to say thank you so much for the awesome job you did at the Denver Conference. I was able to go along with my brother, sister, and dad. We were all greatly encouraged, and we’ve already started discussing what hard things we can do as a family. Plus, it was really cool to get my book signed!!!
My sister and I are planning a Do Hard Things book discussion group this summer.

Alex & Brett,
I just want to thank you both as well as your Dad and brother and everyone else who has made The Rebelution Conference possible. I was not able to attend in Colorado this weekend, but my dear husband and 14 year old daughter did! It was an incredible experience for them to share! Prayers were definitely answered this weekend as our daughter rededicated her life to Christ. Thank you so much guys for answering God’s calling on your lives, speaking His truth, and giving our teens something to really sink their teeth into!
Blessings,
Richelle
