Alex and Brett on CNN Tomorrow!

Update: Thank you all for your prayers! The interview went very well. While we didn’t actually talk about the book, they showed the cover and read the title at the beginning and end — which is great! Pray that God will use this to open more doors in the future and that the many people who came across Do Hard Things on their TV screens this morning will be led to engage with its message. Thanks again, everyone — soli Deo gloria!

Tomorrow (Friday) morning at 3:45 AM (PST), Brett and I will be picked up for an appearance on CNN’s morning show ‘American Morning’, which airs live weekdays from 6 to 9 AM (EST). We will be talking about the presidential election, and hopefully, the Rebelution and Do Hard Things.

We are scheduled for the 7:50-8:00 AM (EST) time slot. Pray that God would grant us wisdom. Pray that the Rebelution message might be spread. Pray for energy, as it will be very early to us and we go straight to the airport from there to fly out for the Minneapolis stop of the Do Hard Things Tour.

Thank you, friends! Soli Deo gloria!

In Christ,

Alex

    Good luck, I’ll be praying.

  2. Trey Edwards Says:

Sweet! Imagine how many people that will reach!!! I cannot watch it, we do not watch TV, and I will not be up that early, I will be sleeping in to get ready for a big day of learning and fellowship at our church on Saturday. I’d ask my parents to make an exception, which I am sure they would, except that they already went to bed. Would someone mind recording it, and posting the link? Or, maybe the Rebelution could post the video on the blog themselves?

    God is good!

  3. Laura Combow Says:

  20. Annie Says:

    Awesome, guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. Hannah Williams Says:

Um I was wondering what you like about Obama? Because so far I’ve just seen a lot of deceit cheating and lying to the younger generaton. He says that if we give Iraq food they will be nice to us.He says that abortion is okay.He has tried to play the “i love everyone everyone is my friend unless of course they dont support me.” I dont mean to critisize yall Im just wondering what yall like about him.

  22. The VIVIT Band Says:

    Hannah,
I believe they articulated well what they like about Obama and why other young adults would be been drawn to him. But, I also believe they communicated clearly why he was not their candidate of choice because Obama’s record did not align with what are important issues that will impact this generation. They weighed the cost as we all should and clearly McCain came out front as the man to support.

  23. Catherine Hayes Says:

    Great interview!

  24. Ella Says:

Great interview, guys. Like you, I was a Huckabee supporter, and now, I am praying about what to do next. It won’t be Obama….but we shall see with the rest. May the man God desires be elected this November!

  25. Allison Says:

Well, I’m confused. McCain is not pro-life, and has had character issues, yet Alex and Brett are supporting him?

  26. Megan Says:

I would just like to state that I am quite pleased at how polished both of you were during the interview! I have not been following the campaigns that closely, since I am Canadian and clearly don’t have much of a say, but I have caught some of the action on the news now and again. From what I can tell you have made an accurate assesment :)

  27. Scott Says:

    Allison:

See John Mccain - as far as i know he is pro-life but then politicians gets so flip-floppy which is one of the reasons Huck was so good - is much more pro-life than Obama.

And really the only two options are Obama or Mccain.

  28. The VIVIT Band Says:

    Allison,

McCAIN: I am proud of my pro-life record in public life, and I will continue to maintain it. I will not draw my children into this discussion. As a leader of a pro-life party with a pro-life position, I will persuade young Americans [to] understand the importance of the preservation of the rights of the unborn.

“I have stated time after time after time that Roe v Wade was a bad decision, that I support a woman — the rights of the unborn — that I have fought for human rights and human dignity throughout my entire political career,” McCain said. “To me, it’s an issue of human rights and human dignity.”

Keenan says. “…when you peel the onion back, the record shows that this is a guy who’s been very anti-choice since he entered the U.S. House of Representatives back in 1983.”

    Obama’s voting record shows he’s “100% pro-choice, even including late-term, partial-birth abortions.”

Sen. Obama received the following scores on NARAL Pro-Choice America’s Congressional Record on Choice.
    2007: 100 percent
    2006: 100 percent
    2005: 100 percent

  29. Catherine Says:

See, I’m not a fan of either candidate. If I were voting this fall I would probably choose Mccain but it’s definitely a choose-your-poison situation. I was actually most supportive of Ron Paul when he was in but always knew he didn’t have a chance. Just dreaming of a strict constructionist, small government, strong-pro life, and very anti-gay marriage candidate one day. Hey, I can dream can’t I?

  30. Ross Says:

McCain is the best candidate between him and Obama. I don’t think either will be a great president, but I do think that Sen. Obama as a president will be terrible. Until he quit, I was going for Mitt Romney, but sadly, he couldn’t keep up.

    Catherine: Keep dreaming! :-)

  31. Kole Says:

what a great oppportunity to share about our faith! Don’t let us down guys! I be praying

  32. jim cooke Says:

Hey guys, I am an average father wanting to make a difference in my son’s life. We live in Midland, Tx and I am hoping to make it to you conference in Dallas next weekend. Nowhere can I find the times for your June 28th conference. I probably just cannot find it, but if I am coming with my 13 year old son, I sure don’t want to miss anything. God Bless, Jim Cooke

Also what did ya’ll say about the presidency??? I wish I could have seen your interview.

  33. jim cooke Says:

1 Timothy4:12(A)Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, (B)love, faith and purity, show yourself (C)an example of those who believe.

I could not post again without using your verse to support what I am saying here b/c I care a ton for the younger generation. Take a stand for what is right morally, conservatively, and every other way you can especially spiritually. Some will say that I am intolerant but I am in love with Jesus Christ my Savior and Lord, I want to come to your conference next weekend, and I want to support you. Step out in faith and contact me. I would love to visit. God is in control and what He decides to do come election time we cannot really fathom right now. But pray pray pray and see what a magnificent God can do. Don’t follow your own instincts but follow those that God gives you to follow.

Do we need a man who calls himself a Republican b/c that is what our parents say? Well, the Republican party used to be truly conservative but what are they now? Go to http://www.drudgereport.com and read past editorials by Cal Thomas. You will enjoy them if you are as concerned about our morals in America as I am. Again, God Bless, Jim Cooke

  34. Ashton B. Winslow Says:

I’m glad to see that you guys are supporting McCain instead of Obama!! You performed (for lack of a better word) an excellent interview. I’ll echo Jim Cooke and ask, what do you think of the current presidency? Specifically, the response of the administration to the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Thanks!
    Your brother in Christ,
    Ashton B. Winslow

  35. Hillary G. Says:

Praying for you! Way to go a’Lisa!

  36. Sarah Byrum Says:

    Way to go!

Keep up the incredible work and may God bless you both abundantly and beyond.

  37. Callie Says:

I love your last words that you write “soli Doe gloria”. I totally love the Latin like “Ora et Labora” which is “pray and work”. I am learning that as a foreign language.

  38. Anna Claire Says:

Wonderful interview! God has opened so many doors for ya’ll. I hope many people read your book because of hearing about it.

Oh dear Alex got a hair cut, now its nearly impossible to tell you two apart!

  39. Kyrstin Says:

Wow - what a great interview! I will definitely be praying!
I really liked how you said some nice things about Obama, for it showed you still had the love of Christ toward him, but you gave a clear explanation about how you don’t agree with him, which was also really nice. What an opportunity!

  40. Autumn Says:

I can’t believe I missed it….I’ll have to watch it online.
That was such a great opportunity to minister! I’ll be praying that it touched hearts.

  41. S.K. Says:

Hey guys, I watched the interview. It was pretty cool. I loved y’all’s answers to the questions she asked. That was an awesome way to show how our generation can make a difference. :)

  42. Josi Says:

@ Anna Claire: At least they were wearing different shirts! Good eye though. I didn’t even notice the haircut.

I showed it to my Dad and he was very impressed. Were y’all asked the questions beforehand so you could prepare the answers or was that totally just ad libbed?

  43. John M. Kirton II Says:

For those not able to catch the television interview on CNN, here’s the link:

    http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2008/06/20/am.intv.young.evangelicals.cnn?iref=videosearch

The interview went well. I was glad to know that the Harris twins are endorsing McCain, but didn’t feel like the question as to WHY they were endorsing him was really answered. While yes, the new car buying illustration helped to explain how young people today are looking at the Presidential candidates and the election, it just didn’t go into enough detail as to the reasons why McCain should be endorsed. I think it would have been a golden opportunity, not to get into the issues, but to help other young people know and reason for themselves why they themselves should consider McCain, despite the trend we see toward endorsing Barak Obama.

    Good interview, guys!

    Info. on Dallas Conference link:
    http://www.therebelution.com/conference/dallas_08.htm

Saturday, July 28, 2008, from 9AM - 5 PM (might want to arrive early to get good seats!)

  44. John M. Kirton II Says:

BTW, what was the blue band one of you were wearing during the interview? What was it promoting?

  45. Amanda Howell Says:

I noticed the hair cuts as well :) Actually, I think Alex cut his first, then Brett later on. One of my younger sisters watched the interview with me and was disappointed Brett cut his hair. Not that it really matters though:)

    Alex and Brett,
I hope that your travels and the conference went well. Thank you so much for all that you do. Great interview.

    In Christ,
    Amanda

  46. Kole Says:

Guys, we may say “Oh look, Mcain has these problems and Obama doesn’t support this,” but the fact is we’re not going to have the perfect president. We sin and I guaranty you the presidential nominees are sin, but we can’t just not vote for someone because there not right in our opinion. Now, I’m not even old enough to vote yet, but you have to see the alternative choice and I would personally rather have McCain as president than Obama. We won’t have the perfect leader until we get to heaven! Goverment won’t solve all our problems but what will happen if step out and not vote. We may find ourselves to be in an even worse situation.

  47. Stephen Graveling Says:

God bless you, I will pray for you

  48. Kole Says:

I was not addressing that last comment I wrote to Alex or Brett, just for clarification. I was addressing it to those who chose not to vote at all because they find something that they don’t agree with the nominees.

  49. Lucy Cole Says:

Great job on the interview! You gave some great answers to some tough questions. I really liked that you didn’t give “generic Conservative formula” answers that everyone has heard before, and that you were respectul and polite (even to stating what you qualities you did like) in your opposition of Obama. Did you know before hand what the questions were going to be?

  50. Bess B. Says:

    Alex & Brett,

What I most admired about your conversation was that you didn’t waste time listing anyone’s faults or (as Lucy Cole says above) offering “generic Conservative formulas” as answers. I think that is something that will really impact your audience in a positive way. Your answers were clear and simple, and offered a great challenge to the viewer (and the young viewer in particular) to think about the issues at hand and be well informed.

    That said, great job! :D

    ~Bess B.

  51. Penny Says:

You know, it’s funny; I noticed the haircuts, too, but I can tell them apart. I think it’s primarily the eyebrows. And their faces look slightly different shapes.

    Great interview, guys.

  52. DaleAnn Negen Says:

    Hi Guys.
I have read Do Hard Things and think it’s great. Your generation truly has an unique set of opportunities before you and unique tools, Here’s my question. Have you developed a core group of persons of character to be a team of intercessors for yourselves, your family and ministry? I believe there are other persons, like myself who are older and seasoned in the ways of intercession by the Holy Spirit who might be feeling called to pray for you. Have you considered recruiting/interviewing people who might wish to serve God in this way? I haven;t explored all of the web site, but I’m so far not finding anything like this. I know you want to be teen run and probably have teen intercessors who do a great job. Just suggesting you might want to take advantage of the gifts and callings of some older folks too. What do you think? DaleAnn Negen, (SoCAl)
You have my email. I wouldlove to serve God by praying for you. Thanks for your time and attention. In Christ, DaleAnn

  53. Catherine Says:

Amen Kole! Vote, and no leader will be perfect until Heaven!

  56. kelsey lauer Says:

Dear Alex and Brett, Why vote for McCain instead of Chuck Baldwin? You should check out this website http://www.constitutionparty.com - kelsey

  57. RAYMOND WATSON Says:

    Men,

With regard to your message on “worship music,” I would like to ad Keith Green to the mix. He is an artist who died many years ago, but I find his stuff very worshipful.

    rw

  58. Daniel Hayes Says:

FAT PEOPLE ROCK.(alex and bret are wsome of them to)

  59. Catherine and Daniel Hayes Says:

I sincerely apologize for the previous comment about Alex and Brett’s size, supposedly from Daniel Hayes. It was not from Daniel, but from our younger brother Stephen.

    Catherine and Daniel

  60. Catherine and Daniel Hayes Says:

Alex and Brett, I’m not apologizing that you rock, but about the other part. :-) Just wanted to clear up any confusion there. Stephen says he’s sorry.
