Dallas Recap and Photos
On Saturday around 1,900 teens, parents, and youth workers came together in Dallas for the fifth stop of the Do Hard Things Tour.

We were so blessed and encouraged by this brother-sister duo — they traveled all the way from Saudi Arabia to attend the conference.

Thank you all for your faithful prayers! To God be the glory!

Wow, sounds amazing. I really wanted to go to the Minneapolis one, but it didn’t really work out. But it’s very cool and encouraging to see the updates on here. Praise God for all the professions of faith!
June 30th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Praise God for the great response!! I have some friends who went and they came back with a good report. Keep up the great work guys!
June 30th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Thank you guys for coming to Dallas and putting the conference together. I was blessed by it and ya’ll encouraged me to do hard things.
June 30th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
I was so excited and encouraged to be able to attend to Dallas conference! It was so moving when those 40 people made professions of faith. Me and my friend Anna were finding it hard to sing afterword.
Thank you so much Alex, Brett and Mr. Harris for speaking! And Joel for the fantastic music!! It was so real.
I do have a question though….Brett, what did you do to loose that tooth when you were little(wasn’t it Brett? Or was it Alex?)??
June 30th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Thank you Brett, Alex, Joel and Mr. Harris for the amazing conference! I was so inspired and encouraged by the worship time and every message and can’t wait to spread it to my friends! I can only imagine what would happen if every “teenager” there that day took those words to heart and lived it out! God did amazing things and I’m so thankful to have been able to be there! And yeah, I was also wondering how in the world did Brett loose that unloose tooth.
June 30th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
I feel so encouraged and blessed by your reports and these pictures. My only wish is that I could be a part of it. Continue in the great work.
June 30th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Thank you Brett, Alex, Mr. Harris, and Joel for an amazing and inspiring conference. I loved every bit of it. You guys are a great witness for teens and you have given me new inspiration and a desire to follow God. Thank You Alex for recommending the book The Enemy Within. I have already started reading it and am deeply motivated and determined to fight my temptation. Which is an incredibly hard thing to do. I look forward to the day you guys to come again.
Brett: I was one of the very few at the conference who is a lefty. And I loved your joke on trying to live in a right-handed world.
June 30th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
I wish I could have gone!!! :’( lol! Maybe next time… this month was much too crazy for me to go!
Keep up the great work!
June 30th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
Wow! I was there, and it was so amazing…… Thanks so much!
June 30th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
I really wish I could have gone! You guys should come to AL/TN sometime soon! I know myself and at least two of my friends that would volunteer to help.
June 30th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Love the hat, Brett!
June 30th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
Really exciting to hear what going on!
June 30th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Wow, it sounds like the Dallas conference was a hit! I really wish I could have been there
; I know it would have been a blessing! When are you guys going to be in Houston Texas? I was just wondering, I’ve heard that it’s always gray and raining in the Washington/Oregon area, is this true? (just curious). Keep up the great work
P.S. Do you believe that youth groups are biblical(I’ve been discussing this in the forum)?
Soli Deo Gloria, Ahlaischa

Carry on in the Service of the King!
June 30th, 2008 at 5:01 pm

June 30th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
The conference was so inspiring!!! Thank you!!! The rain inside the church was cool!
We posted some pics from the conference on our website!

The conference was very challenging, encouraging, and inspiring! Praise God for the work He is doing in our generation!

The Dallas conference was awesome! Thank y’all.
June 30th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
So… when are you guys going to make t-shirts that say “Parent of a Rebelutionary”???
June 30th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Hey Thanks for signing my guest book!
June 30th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
nice hat, Brett!!
June 30th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Our nation is in trouble! I currently work in Corporate America where I daily see the direct result of generations of those who have clearly lived lives of low expectations. At age 44, I am excited about what I have witnessed God doing in the lives of a father and his two 19-year-old twin sons today at The Rebelution Tour 2008 in Plano, Texas. If you have not yet decided to attend a Rebelution conference in your area, make the decision NOW to register AND attend. You and your “teenage” children will be encouraged and blessed. AND lives will be changed! I am excited about what God has for the future of our nation through the lives of these Rebelutionaries and those who follow them as they follow Christ.
Vive la Rebeluccion!
June 30th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Wow, that is so amazing! Praise God for all His goodness!
By the way, is there a difference between the Do Hard Things Tour and the Rebelution Conference? Or are they one and the same?
June 30th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
I love the “one has a hat” “one doesn’t” look you guys used this time.
We must go! Praise God!
July 1st, 2008 at 12:35 am
Those are beautiful pictures. Looks like a wonderful conference! I also thought the hat was cool… what’s the story behind the rocket launcher things that you guys were holding, though?
July 1st, 2008 at 4:27 am
Guys, I believe your mission NOW is to develop other brothers just like you, teens with the abilities you have, teens to feed the spiritually hungry. You can train them at each future stop on your tours. Develop a “leadership” training course and teach it the day after your big public rallies, and leave behind a talented blood-bought Timothy-type person everywhere you go. Build an organization capable of feeding the hungry for Christ among yoiur peers.
Father, abba, give the guys the vision and the strength and the appetite to raise up a literaly army of lovers of God to do at home where they visit what they do “on the road.”
Lord, they are like the Hebrew children of old, and these obey you !
rw

Over 40?! Awesome! Up in heaven, God’s probably keeping his angels busy making mansions!:)
P.S. What rocket launchers, Justine?
July 1st, 2008 at 7:14 am
The conference in Dallas was great I would also like to see more materials developed for parents of rebelutionaries so that we can share these concepts with other parents.
As a substitute teacher for a local public school system I wish there was a way to get ” the rebelution against low expectations” message out in the older elementary/middle school population through a social studies or American History class format.
Your family and your ministry is in my prayers.
July 1st, 2008 at 7:30 am
hey guys,
The Conference Saturday was really, really encouraging. The practical examples and applications help give ideas for putting into practice the important things we’ve been taught. there were some really neat analogies too; my Dad particularly liked the lizard analogy your Dad used, as I was reviewing my notes with him when I got home.
I’m glad that you also didn’t try to stay aloof during the breaks, and instead continued to give of yourselves by meeting with all of us during the breaks.
The invitation part was really touching too; there was one guy a few rows in front of me who stood up and was just weeping openly. his friends were hugging him, and encouraging him. I think the Lord really spoke to him in that moment. Praise the Lord for His power!
Thanks, guys, for being willing to be the tools of God! Give Him the Glory!
Brian

July 1st, 2008 at 1:08 pm
Hey, Brett and Alex! I felt inspired by all that you two said up there! You two are my heroes!
I hope I will get to see both of you again!!( and maybe next time I’ll get to have a picture taken with you!! Too many swarming girls!!) And Joel… I loved your music ministry!! Keep it up!!! Luv, Steph
July 1st, 2008 at 1:23 pm
I think it’s beautiful when people come together and worship God. The picture of the boy reminds me of this little 8 year old that i know named Adonis. While my youth group and i were at a christian camp called Centrifuge in North Carolina, that little boy said that he accpeted Jesus as his lord and savior. I wanted to cry tears of joy. I think it’s amazing when people make professions of faith. everytime, i cant help but jumping and laughing. i’m reading your book right now and i’m not even 100 pages in and you’ve already inspired me. i really hope that one day i’ll be able to hear you speak. trust me, i’m going to do hard things!
i’ll pray for you guys.
July 1st, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Enjoyed it guys! Keep up the good work. Thanks for motivating us to do the same.
July 1st, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Hi, ok at the dallas conferance, you said to take advantage of the rebelution. So, I have a question. Is there anyone on here that has/ knows someone who has raised money for an ultrasound machine, for crisis pregnancy centers (or the equivalent in your/their area)? I feel called to do that but I NEED HELP! Thank you. : )
July 1st, 2008 at 3:44 pm
Alex or Brett or anyone who can help, i didn’t know if you had a specific area on the site to ask questions, but i was wondering if you have a list of books you recomend? i love your book and thought that you might know of some others on the same topic. i would appreciate any recomendations. thanks!!!!!
July 1st, 2008 at 3:53 pm
Hey! It’s sounds like the conference went very well. I’m so pleased hear that a lot of people made professions! :0 I’ll keep praying for you guys as you continue on with the Tour.
Oh and to Anna M. At the top of the page, where Alex and Brett have their picture, there are six links that you can click on and then a box that says suscribe by email. The next to last link says Alex and Brett’s booklist. If you click there you should be able to follow it to many books that they recomend. Hope that helps!
July 1st, 2008 at 5:45 pm
It was a blessing having you, Alex and Brett, in Dallas again. It was a ton of fun, and I look forward to see what God has in store for you in the future!
July 1st, 2008 at 7:24 pm
I really like the black and white picture at the top!
I went to the Minneapolis conference - it was amazing!
This is just great - God is amazing.
By the way, Brett - I really like your hat! Very stylish.

I was at the conference, and boy, was I glad I went! It was amazing… inspiring… encouraging… invigorating… and yes, convicting. Thank you Alex and Brett for all you said. Your humility and devotion are so admirable. Praise God for the 40+ souls that responded to the gospel there. Seeing those people, young and old, stand up and declare Jesus as Lord brought tears to my eyes. All I could think was, Thank you Lord! This is what it’s all about!
It was great getting to meet you two. Thanks for the autographs and the picture. I hope we can get together again sometime when we’re up at school in Virginia this fall! In the mean time, keep up the good work and God bless.

I like the nice photos!
I am disappointed that I couldn’t come this conference, and for that matter, I have never been to any of them!:( It would be so nice if I could attend one someday!
Keep up the wonderful work,

I just want to thank you for the time and effort you and your family and countless others have put into “doing hard things” by putting on this conference. I went with a bunch of young people and parents from my church and it is exciting to see how your large event is having an impact on small communities like mine. Now I can’t get away with any complaining about anything at all difficult when I am at church without someone saying very cheerfully, “do hard things!”
Even if just a few people from each of your conference trully live out the message of the Rebelution they will change our world!
I brought my younger brother with me and I was so thrilled because he talked non-stop the entire way home about what he would do this summer to do hard things!
The conference was perfect timing for me and I am challenged that all else matters little in the light of what Christ has done for me. We do hard things out of our desire for Christ! What a joy to see others who are earnestly seeking to please our God. Thank you for being that example to our generation.

Our God is great!!!!!!!
You guys toughed me so much I was almost in tears near the end.
My little brother even sat thought the whole thing without becoming bored. He was one one the 40 that excepted Christ as their savior.
Thank you so much for doing these conferences.

I’m so glad that it went well. I hope to be able to attend one of your conferences someday!
July 3rd, 2008 at 4:25 am
Wow! 1900 people! And two from Saudi Arabia! How did the Rebelution become so wide spread and well known?
July 3rd, 2008 at 5:53 am
Wow is all I can say…wow!
My mom asked me if I wanted to go and I said yes, simply because I always go to these things. I love knowledge and learning so I feel like I can never attend too many, you know? Anyway, I don’t think my mom ever explained what it was but she mentioned that it was led by Josh Harris’ younger brothers. So I was expecting another dating conference. Boy was I wrong, haha.
I have never been more excited, inspired, or passionate about something taught to me than I was after the rebelution conference. Thank y’all so much!
I was even blessed with a picture to remember the strong calling that God gave me that day. In picture 54 of the Dallas recap photo album there is a picture of me reading the Systematic Theology book. Before it was presented to us, I saw it on the shelf and picked it up to see exactly what systematic theology actually was. As I read over the chapters and read the foreword I got so excited, I started reading the first chapter right there! I wasn’t able to buy it before they were all sold out, thanks to y’alls persuasive speaking skills, but I have ordered one from Barnes and Noble and I can’t wait to start on it! I’m just sad it’s taken me 19 years to get this excited about studying the faith that I’ve lived my life by for the past 15 years.
July 3rd, 2008 at 5:55 am
P.s.
In my blog, I wrote out my notes from the sessions…I re-presented the same information and concept that was taught to us. I hope thats not plagiarism, should I cite y’all in there somewhere?
July 3rd, 2008 at 6:13 am
I can answer that question Meshaay. God. God tells us to preach His Word, then he will do the rest. God is the one who has expanded this organization. He has spread it throughout the world. I thank God for that, for the widespread rebelution.
July 3rd, 2008 at 8:14 am
I loved the conference! God is doing amazing things through you guys!
I think one of the things that was most amazing to me is listening to my Uncle and Aunt explain the conference to other adults. They were so excited, tripping over their words, so energized for God! It was amazing!
Soli Deo Gloria!
July 3rd, 2008 at 8:15 am
The conference was amazing! I loved the rain at the end. Thanks for all you do Alex and Brett!
July 3rd, 2008 at 9:06 am
Thanks for the amazing conferences. The seven principles you gave for Do Hard Things and also of practical encouragement I’m trying to apply to each day of the week. Truly life and perspective changing! Thanks for the wisdom and please come back to DFW again! Also, thanks for the book. It’s so great to have the message of The Rebelution in one accessible format. I’m really being blessed by it.
July 4th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
That is sooo cool! I hope you guys do one in Atlanta sometime…I live in Villa Rica, Ga, and have wanted to go to one of your conferences for quite some time. I am at the part in your book about where the four guys started Dry Tears. Really moving! I want to do something to help others, but don’t know what. My strong points are art, writing, and riding. I’m stuck! Can anyone help, or give ideas? oh, wait! Thank you, Lord! I think he just gave me an idea. I could write and sell a book, and give the proceeds to help a third world country! What do you think?
July 4th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Thanks Alex and Brett for the wonderful conference.
I was really inspired and want to really do little hard things first - my sister and I were really encouraged by the conference and would certainly go again!

I read about “ya’ll” in the Decision magazine and was intriged. I homeschooled my two through their middle school years. They are now both in the ministry; one in youth ministy and the other is in compassionate ministries. Fairly new to the world of blogging, and ever searching for ways to share Christ (especially through my art), I clicked onto your site to see what so many people were clicking in to read. My heart was truely blessed!! I would like to add a link from my blog to your yours if you do not mind. Some day, “when I grow up” ha, I hope to share as effectively as the two of you. May the Lord truely bless you both. It has been a pleasure to “meet” you.
July 7th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
Whoa! Saudi Arabia? Thats awesome! I used to live there for a few years (though I’m not from there) when I was not a genuine Christian, and I WASTED it. It’s a blessing to know that brother and sister are not wasting their lives, even in the land where godly people are openly persecuted!
God bless you all!
July 7th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Have you guys ever thought about coming to Kansas during your Do Hard Things Tour?
Now I can already see the grins and hear the chuckles, but hey, we are in the center of the U.S. and we do have more here than wheat fields! My church youth is using the Do Hard Things book in their Sunday school class this summer. I’ve heard that the leaders are impressed and enjoying it themselves. One of my friends, who leads the middle school girls class, read to us a bit from it in our Bible study. She really enjoyed the part about the elephant. :o)
I had already read part of it in Taiwan where I received it when I was serving at an orphanage. The rest I read when I got back to the States. I had read about it previously, and had wrote my mom about it back in the States. When it came out she got two, one for loaning to others and one for me and my family to keep. When the time came for me to leave Taiwan, (I was there for 5 months) another intern at the children’s home was speed reading it to get it done before I had to leave so that I could take it home with me.
We are glad there are others willing to take a stand and rebel against low expectations.
I have two questions for Alex and Brett and anyone else who’s dealt with this sort of situation. This is not meant to be condemning in any way to the Harrises, please take it as an honest question as it is meant. How do you handle using yourselves as examples when writing and talking to people without giving people the impression that you’re better than them? I know politicians can be VERY good at talking and sounding as humble as can be but underneath it all they really enjoy talking about themselves. I never want to give someone that impression.
And second question, a couple of years ago when you were younger, how did you handle doing challenging things that others your age weren’t doing but still not putting yourself above others your age? I myself am young, much to young for most everyones standards, to have gone by myself to Taiwan for 5 months! (I just turned 17 two days ago) I’m often running into problems because of my age. I try very hard not to push myself into things that aren’t open for those my age, but at the same time God’s given me gifts that I know he wants me to use.
I’ll give an example but try not to write a book, but it might be too late for that!
When I was in Taiwan I volunteered and lived at a Christian orphanage. The LEAST amount of babies I took care of at The Home was 12. Every day I helped to care for between 12 to 21 babies. I was night shift so I got up in the early afternoon and went to bed in the morning. At night I was the only one on duty. I enjoyed my work, it was hard, but it was a joy to work for Christ and help this ministry and give to these babies. Now as I’m back in the States It’s hard to get people to trust someone my age with even ONE baby! It’s hard not to be a little bit sarcastic when people wonder if you know how to change a diaper. But an even bigger problem is that I have a hard time now connecting and making new friends with those my age. They see me now as aloof and just WAY different! How can I be an encouragement to others my age when I’m way to young to be a mentor and way to different to be their friends? And when people ask me about things I’ve done and are truly interested, how do I talk and write about these things without seeming like I’m boasting?
A new situation for me, but yet very familiar, is something at church. I’ve been involved, but just as a once every couple of months, volunteering in the nursery at church. (That’s what the youth are allowed to do) Now that our church is moving into our own building we are reorganizing and getting volunteers back together. The lady in change of this saw me signing up and told me to sign up on the adult sheet. She knew of my experience and joked that she’d trust me to handle the room full by myself. I appreciate her willingness to see past my age to my gifts and letting me be more involved.
So what’s the problem?? Well, if I’m in the nursery much more often and am in the position of the adult when I’m there, then there will possibly be those my age or OLDER in the youth that I’ll might be officially “over” and be giving directions to.
So… how have you all handled situations like these? You want to be friends with and encourage those our age, but yet often I find myself in a different stage or position in life and therefore not “in” with those my age.
I realize alot of these situations just come down to my heart and my attitude so I’ll be praying about it. It just feels good to write it out and hear from others who’ve dealt with similar.
In HIM,
~Elizabeth

I have wondered many of the same questions as Elizabeth Joy. Though I’ve never really been in an actual situation, I have tossed similar questions in my mind. I’ll be interested in what anyone has to say about it as well.
In Christ,
Amanda
July 8th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
I can relate to Elizabeth Joy too!
I haven’t been living the “do hard things” concept really, although I wish I had gotten it a lot earlier. The things that could have changed! Anyway, I do have a hard time connecting with people my age, just for a different reason.
You seem more mature and “above” people your age because you were so sold out for God and experienced a lot of responsibility and grew in ways that most kids your age haven’t yet. In my case, I matured a lot quicker than my peers as well but only through necessity. My parents don’t have good incomes and so as soon as I had my own job I took on the responsibility of buying my own clothes, car, gas, and when I turned 18 and went to college I paid for school, housing, bills, the whole shabang. So while everyone else is having fun, I’m working 40 hours a week or studying late at night or cooking or cleaning or any number of other things that aren’t typical pasttimes for the average college student.
So I definitely know what you’re talking about. I’ve found I can connect better with people 5 or more years older than me, and am more comfortable surrounded by a bunch of mothers than girls my own age. It’s hard. I want to be accepted but my situation makes it almost impossible for me to interact with people my age and when I do its always weird and awkward.
Help would be appreciated.
