Film Academy Live: Post #1
Hey guys, this is Isaac here from San Antonio. We landed at the airport yesterday at 4:30pm and joined up with our group at the hotel. There’s been a bit of trouble with our internet connection at the hotel, so we had to resort to drastic measures (see above) but it shouldn’t be a problem in the future.
Today the film academy starts and will be continuing till the 7th. Training includes hands-on experience with HD Camera Red One, stunts, and everything else ranging from lighting techniques, to getting your film ready for the big screen.
Let me briefly explain how the live-blogging will work: I’ll be posting a recap at the end of each day. I may post more than once a day, depending on how much there is to post about. If any of you have special requests, or questions, go ahead and post them in the comment section below, and I’ll get to them if and when I can.
Thanks for all your comments, encouragement, and prayer. Hope you enjoy the blogging!

I heard about the film makers academy in the Vision Forum catalog. Is it as neat as it looked in the add?

January 5th, 2009 at 11:19 am
Isaac, I look forward to your posts the next few days.
My family has become very interested in the Film Festival & we have the DVDs from the years 2004-2006. I wonder what Richard Ramsey and the Aletheia Stage and Film Co. have to show this year!? Washington’s Cross was a great film from 2004!!!
January 5th, 2009 at 11:19 am
It sounds really cool! Maybe I’ll go one day. I hope the internet connection gets better!
God Bless,

January 5th, 2009 at 11:40 am
By the way Issac, I think that what you’re doing is so neat. I’m 15 myself and am currently directing a Christian movieClick on my name to see the site). So it’s really cool to see other teens like myself working on stuff like this.
hmmm, as far as requests, I can’t think of any now!
I’ll be praying for you and your time at the film festival!
January 5th, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Woot, woot! That’s my brother!
January 5th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
You look a lot like your brothers, Isaac. I don’t suppose that’s much of a surprise.
I can’t wait to hear more, and I’ll be praying that everything will go well for you and everyone else there.
January 5th, 2009 at 12:42 pm
Look forward to reading your posts Isaac!

Olivia: I checked in with the staff and they said they don’t believe the Ramsey brothers submitted anything to the festival this year.
More to come, got to run!
January 5th, 2009 at 1:42 pm
Neato! Maybe we’ll go next year!
January 5th, 2009 at 1:50 pm

January 5th, 2009 at 3:13 pm
Have fun Isaac! We’ll be keeping tabs on you!
January 5th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
So how exactly does the film academy work? Do people bring in already-made videos to be judged, or do they take “classes” and then make the films?
January 5th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
Looking forward to more.
Doing a great job. Keep up the good work Isaac!
January 5th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
Neat! My brother and dad are there too. They travelled all the way from Ontario, Canada to go to the festival.

I have always wanted to go!
Fireproof is in the running right?
January 5th, 2009 at 4:26 pm
how long did you have to wait to get the forum administrators to okay your application?
it has been over 1 month, and i have not gotten any response from them.
January 5th, 2009 at 5:13 pm
Hey Isaac! That sounds like an amazing opportunity you have! I didn’t know you were planing on doing this. Well, hope you enjoy yourself and learn a lot about film!
Hope to read your blogs soon!

Rose: Yes, so far the academy has been everything as advertised and more. And we haven’t even gotten to workshopping with the Red One, or stunts.
Taryn: The film academy is a three day intensive training on all things film. They bring in film industry professionals, train you on high-quality equipment, and speak on what it means to be a Christian filmmaker.
Antoinette: Yes, Fireproof will be showing. I’ll be posting a bit about it on Thursday.
Pete: Go ahead and email joseph (at) therebelution (dot) com and check in on it. They may have sent you an email, but it got stuck in your spam filter.

Sounds like fun! I can’t wait to read about what’s going on and maybe see some pictures (?) !
I would certainly hope Fireproof would be showing! It’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen and probably every made!! =D
Thanks for doing this Isaac!

Hey Isaac, I was wondering if you could post/comment on any of the tips they do on lighting, and mabye mild stunts. Lighting has been difficult in the past, especially sense all I have to work with are some lamps. And it would be great to hear some things on stunts. (sense I don’t know anything about them!)
Thanks!

That’s neat that you got to go! Wish I was there! I would love some day to become a film maker!
Hope you’re doing good Isaac. Do you remember me from the tournament? ha.. I would hope so!
Are you coming to the Medford Clarion speech and debate tournament? Cause my family’s going for sure! But if not, are you going to any other tournaments (or are you even going to be apart of speech this year?)??
God bless,
-Devin
January 6th, 2009 at 8:14 am
Hey Devin, of course I remember you, man! Good to hear from you.
I’m not sure about tournaments this year, though I am doing Apologetics. I’ll let you know when I know.

Hi Isaac!
Thanks for the updates! I have a couple of questions…
Do you know if they are going to come out with DVD’s from this filmmakers academy? Also, I read in an email from Vision Forum that Kirk Cameron is going to be there…is he going to give any talks?
Thanks!
~Ana
January 6th, 2009 at 2:59 pm
I think that Vision Forum sells DVDs of the conference on their website and in their catolog.
January 7th, 2009 at 9:25 am
Ana: Yes, DVD’s are available on Vision Forum’s website and Kirk Cameron is indeed here, and he’ll be speaking shortly.
January 7th, 2009 at 10:40 am
Hey Isaac!
Thanks so much for all that you’re doing to keep us updated on the SAICFF 2009. It’s so exciting to see the growth of action and interest in the Christian independent film movement over the last couple of years.
Recently, I’ve begun studying beauty and aesthetics in literature, philosophy etc. I was hoping you could share what the speakers or filmmakers have to say, if they say anything at all, about either beauty or aesthetics within the Christian independent film movement.
Thanks for your time!
God be with you,
~Amanda L.

You mentioned coverage we’d like - I am particularly interested in coverage of the awards. I’d love to see summaries of what the winners mentioned in their acceptance speeches.
January 11th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
Thanks for that Issac, I think that I will do that as soon as I get my parent’s permission!
