Isaac Harris: Live-Blogging the Film Festival

It is with great excitement that Alex and I bring your attention to the fifth annual San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival and the fourth annual Christian Filmmakers Academy, two growing projects of Vision Forum Ministries. These two events, slated for January 5-10, will draw maverick Christian filmmakers from around the globe to challenge the status quo presented by Hollywood.
This year we’re continuing our tradition of live-blogging the academy and festival on TheRebelution.com — only this time around we’ll be turning the blog over to a 14-year-old who is both a budding filmmaker and our little brother: Isaac. We hope you enjoy him as much as we do. Love ya’ Isaac!
Why You Should Be Excited
We love the vision of both the academy and festival to foster the continued growth of an independent Christian film movement. As America becomes increasingly discontent with Hollywood, the film academy and festival provide an avenue for Christians to stop cursing the darkness and to start lighting candles.
These events are designed, not only to showcase the work of aspiring Christian filmmakers, but also to connect them with fellow enthusiasts and to equip them through seminars, workshops and training by seasoned industry professionals.
Through the work of Vision Forum an increasing number of Christians are learning how to create films that powerfully combine high-end technical quality with a presuppositionally Christian worldview. Few events better demonstrate the three pillars of the Rebelution: Character, Competence, and Collaboration.
But beyond the regular great films and informative workshops, this year features the largest grand prize in the nation — an $101,000 Best of Festival award. Other new and exciting features for academy and festival attendees include hands-on training with the Red Digital Cinema Camera, stunt workshops, entertainment by the Von Trapp Children, and opportunities to meet Stephen Kendrick and Kirk Cameron, producer and star, respectively, of the very successful Christian film Fireproof.
Keep checking back over the course of next week for daily recaps and photos. If you’ll be in San Antonio make sure to leave a comment and let us know — and don’t forget to say “hi” to Isaac. We’re sure he’d love to meet you.

Looking forward to reading Isaac’s posts!

I am so jealous! Ever since I knew about it I’ve wanted to go so badly to the Film Festival and the Filmmakers Academy…
I guess I can go virtually now, eh?
January 3rd, 2009 at 7:41 am
Sounds exciting! I would’ve liked to go, but I don’t think it will happen this year. I always thought it would be neat to attend.
Have fun!
Good for you Isaac. I know you’ll do a great job!
God Bless,
A sister in Christ…

I have a question… What are your (Alex, Brett and Everyone) opinions on facebook? I’m a pastor’s daughter and I think that it might be a stumbling block for some people if I do get one because I’m supposed to be “all that” and the “pastor’s daughter” and I’m an example for other teens. Yet, I really want one to communicate with my friends and family… what do you think?
January 3rd, 2009 at 8:08 am
I’m very excited about the filmmakers academy and the film festival! I’ll actually be at both this year - in fact, we’re leaving today to start the long drive! I look forward to meeting you there, Isaac.
January 3rd, 2009 at 8:57 am
We have a group from our church attending both the Academy and Festival for the first time! I’m ecstatic about this opportunity!
January 3rd, 2009 at 9:13 am
Very Fun!
Hope you all have a blast!
January 3rd, 2009 at 9:14 am
Hello Alex and Brett,
My whole family and I will be attending the film festival, we are really excited to be going this year. I look forward to meeting your brother Isaac. Will you two be there?
January 3rd, 2009 at 9:17 am
I love Vision Forum! And the Kendric brothers. And Fireproof rocks!! HAs anyone watched their first movie, Flywheel? It’s very good! I can’t wait to see Fireproof. Anyone noticed that all of their movies start with “F”?
Kaylee, I don’t think facebook is bad; just be careful with how often you use it. Don’t let it become an idol. Facebook is an awesome way to keep up with friends and family;two friends of mine use it to talk with their grandmother. I do not have facebook, but my parents have allowed me to get a blog on blogger.com instead. That is another way for friends and family keep up woth your life. Talk with your parents and see what they think; they’ll be able to help you decide.

That is so awesome! I’m an indie filmmaker and I would love to be in, or attend this some day.
January 3rd, 2009 at 9:30 am
I will be at the film festival this year!
January 3rd, 2009 at 9:37 am
My family will be there at the film festival (my brother Paul is going to the film academy too). We’re pretty excited! I’d love to meet any other Rebelutionaries who are going to the event too so if someone reading this sees me there, please say “hi”.
The festival is a great experience, the vision behind it is fantastic, and God will, and is, using it to advance His kingdom.

this sounds great!!!! am looking forward to it!!!

This is the next generation of filmmakers that will shine a light in a dark world. A world where our television and movies are influencing the culture to sin. We need to pray for writers, actors, directors, and others that will take a stand against what the culture says and produce films that can be pleasing to God and safe for families to watch without seeing violence and hearing foul language.
January 3rd, 2009 at 10:13 am
This is such a great ministry, and it IS a ministry. What a wonderful way to equip God’s servants to be a light. I’m looking forward to the updates.

As the producer and cinematographer of one of the short semi-finalists (Dialtonemovie.com) I’m super excited that I’ll be there again.
I’m sorry I won’t get to work with you guys again at the festival, but I’m looking forward to meeting Isaac there. I have many crew members in WA who can’t make it to SA that are counting on the live blogging here.
Many thanks for keeping the tradition going!

HEY JACOB!!!!! YOU THE MAN!!!!
January 5th, 2009 at 1:58 pm
i meant Isaac.
oops!
January 5th, 2009 at 8:50 pm
I think it’s AMAZING how God is blessing the various Christian film groups. Fireproof, Come What May, Expelled (some of my favorite movies), they all are a stark contrast to the films Hollywood puts forth. I pray God uses these films, and others like them, to bless.
I was so excited to see that you were advertising and updating on the Film Festival. It’s exciting because my brother, Matthew, is attending both the Academy and Festival as a reporter from the Christian Press. So exciting that my brother gets to be apart of all the activities.
Keep up with the great blogging, Isaac.
January 6th, 2009 at 7:14 pm
Thanks so much for being willing to do the blogging, Isaac! It is very much appreciated!

Hello Christian filmmakers,
I am interested in showing your films at our festival March 2010 at the New Hope Foursquare Church, Red Bluff, Ca.
My vision of this project is for an outreach to my local community. At this point, DVDs will work best. I would like to network with you on
available films of any length.
Please understand that this is not intented to be a money making venture. I want to keep my costs low.
At this point, I want to feature several short films from Christian students, and two or more longer films on a weekend. I hope to encourage Christian student filmmakers, and others and promote the art form. I intend to provide feedback on projects, either through a written film review, or audience response forms, etc. My goal is to create a unique annual event here in Red Bluff,Ca.
The purpose of the Brickyard Creek Christian Film Festival is to draw individuals to the Lord Jesus Christ, and the ministry of the Church.
Once we establish an audience for this venue, I would like to recruit a couple of churches in town to feature different films on the same weekend to make the festival as more of a community event. It will be fun to watch it grow.
We will not be charging for admission, or require a film submission fee. Films will not be duplicated or sold.
Our plan to sell snack items during the event to cover the cost of promotional materials.
God bless all of you, in your desire and your efforts to make Christ known. I hope to hear from you.
If you know other filmmakers who would like their films shown here, please pass on our contact information. Please only original material-music, images, pleas. Unless copyright permission has been granted. Thank you. Jay
