Don’t Waste Your Life Reading Group

Don't Waste Your Life

After writing several posts along the Don’t Waste Your Life theme, we just remembered that The Café (a section of the Rebelution forums) is hosting a reading group for Don’t Waste Your Life this summer (discussion starts on June 15).

This is an excellent opportunity to not only read the book, but to discuss it with fellow rebelutionaries. If you are already a member of the forums simply Private Message Justin Davito to be added to the group. Otherwise you’ll need to (1) apply for forum membership and (2) Private Message Justin Davito.

I am so excited to read this book! I started it recently and just attended the “Don’t Waste Your Life” concert featuring Lecrae, Flame, Trip Lee, and others. It was so good and I can’t wait to join the group in studying it!

  2. Bennett S. Says:

Thanks for posting this, Alex! I was actually thinking of messaging you, but I guess I won’t need to.

    ~ Bennett S.

P.S. I’m looking forward to discussions as well, Becca.

I am *so* looking forward to the discussions as well, Bennet and Becca. I can’t wait! I’ve heard such good things about the book and can’t wait for this great opportunity to read it and discuss it with my fellow Rebelutionaries.

  6. Sarah Sabol Says:

Sweet. This should be good. That book was on my reading list for this summer. Now I have other people’s thoughts to consider, not just my own. After we study this book, we should do Unfashionable.

  7. Tabitha Says:

I have the book and I am ready to go!
I can’t wait to study this excellent book with fellow rebelutionaries!

  8. Andie Says:

Awsome! I already have the book, so I’m looking forward to reading it again with the group!

“Don’t Waste Your Life Reading Group”
What’s ‘Group’ and why shouldn’t I waste my time reading it? /jk
Seriously though, Don’t Waste Your Life is an excellent book, I’ve read it twice, once alone and once with two friends, and I still feel like reading through it again. I love how John Piper is providing the book online for free, too, making it perfect for online discussion. Good choice!

  10. Mary B. Says:

    David,
I didn’t know you could get it free! Sweet…is there a possibility that somehow people can get the study guide free?

  11. Hannah H. Says:

When is the reading schedule going to be posted? Oh and I am very excited to be doing this study! And Mary, I’m pretty sure you can get the study guide for free also at desiringgod.com. :)

  12. Kristin Carr Says:

Yay! I’m looking forward to reading and discussing “Don’t Waste Your Life” with my fellow rebelutionaries! :-D

  13. Brett Harris Says:

Mary: You can download the study guide for free from this page.

David Daniel: I thought about that after I posted, only I thought people might read it as the “Don’t Waste Your Life Reading” group — which would be terrible because we want people to read!

  14. Hannah H. Says:

I actually read the title as “Don’t Waste Your Life Reading” group at first but I knew that wasn’t right! :p

  15. Jordan Cruz Says:

Nine days until the discussions. I can’t wait. I’ve never read Don’t Waste Your Life, though I’ve been meaning to for ages. This will be excellent.

And you can say the that “a reading group will be reading and discussing Don’t Waste Your Life.
    That should avoid confusion.

  16. David Daniel Says:

@Mary B.: you can get the study guide for free online too!

  17. Sean John Says:

This book is pure Christian Hedonist dope. Led a book study of this with ma friends at school last semester. Probably gonna go thru it again with this girl I like. Props to you guys!

  18. Alesia Willard Says:

I applied for a membership so now I’m just waiting for it to be approved or not.
So”Dont Waste Your Life” is a book?
So obviously I am going to have to get that book, right?
    =)

  19. Sarah Pena Says:

I can’t wait for it to start! I’ve already gotten access to the Cafe and have read “Don’t Waste Your Life” before. It’s such an awesome book and inspired and convicted me so much! Thanks for posting guys!

    Sarah :)

P.S. Brett it’s so good to see your comments again! Enjoying the summer break? Though for you and your family you probably don’t get much of a break! ;)

  20. Betsey K. Says:

I have a question about the forums. I think I want to join, but I am not sure how the whole thing works. I read the membership guidelines, but I’d like to know more. Can anyone who is in the forums give me a summary of what happens there?

  21. Sarah Pena Says:

What exactly did you want to know about the forums Betsey? I’ve been a member for a while now and would like to answer any questions you might have!

    Sarah :)

  22. Betsey K. Says:

    Thanks Sarah! OK, here goes:

First of all, in the window that says select a forum, there are different names, like the Cafe, the Attic, and the Greenhouse. What does that mean? I mean, is there a different topic for each forum, or is it a specific age group?
Second, how do people discuss things? Is it like the blog where everyone comments in a row? Is it some kind of live chatting?
Thirdly, in the membership guidelines, it says that they are more concerned with quality than quantity in member’s posts. Does that mean you have to write an essay-like post?
    Fourthly, what is a thread?

Thank you so much Sarah for being willing to answer my questions. I have never been in a forum, or anything similar, so I don’t know ANYTHING. :-) But it sounds like a good place, and I’d like to join. Thanks again for helping me!

    Betsey

  23. Sarah Peña Says:

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond to you Betsey! But here are the answers to your questions. Hopefully they help you!

    1) The different names are just different sections. The Attic is for girls only; we tend to discuss things that we don’t want the boys to know about or just things that are geared for girls. The Garage is for boys only. Since I’ve never been on there I don’t know what they talk about. Probably nonsense and things against girls is my guess. ;) The Cafe is for different studies, I think. Right now it’s just for the “Don’t Waste Your Life” study. The Living room is for both girls and boys to discuss things in. The Prayer Room is a place where Rebelutionaries can post their prayer request and we can pray and encourage each other. The Bulletin Board is where they post time-sensitive announcements and offers. The Armory is a place to share information and resources. A Greenhouse is a place where you can post if you want to start a new thread and only you and the moderators can see it.

    2) Usually the thread will have questions and rebelutionaries will answer them, give advice, tell what they believe on the subject, etc. It is formatted kind-of like a blog where the main post is at the top and then everyone else posts their comments.

    3) No don’t worry, you don’t have to write an essay for every post! :) I think they just mean you aren’t supposed to write one letter posts like on most forums. They just want us to have some substance in what we say and not to just be chatting with each other (if you want to just talk to a member though, you can do that through private messages).

    4) A thread is basically just an online conversation. It’s actually a lot like this blog — different places where you can post a comment, each place dealing with a certain subject.

I hope that helped! If you have any more questions or want me to clarify something better, just ask! I really hope you join the forum though. It is a wonderful place for rebelutionaries to encourage one-another and share ideas and just to make great friendships!

    Sarah :)
