Book Bomb: Update and Prizes

With just over a week to go before the Amazon.com Book Bomb, over 250 people have pledged to order 375 books on February 23rd. This is a good start! But it’s less than half the number of pledges we had at this point for Do Hard Things.

To make this a success, we all need to push hard over the next week to spread the word, build excitement — and most importantly, get people to sign up and pledge.

A lot of you have already been doing an amazing job. A special shout out to…

• Camden M. — who redesigned his blog for the Book Bomb.
• Matthew R. — who created a Facebook App for spreading the word.
• Tabitha H. — who is using her next paycheck to order 5 copies.
• Seth W. — who got his whole youth group (of 20) to sign up.
• If others will follow their lead — there’s no way the Book Bomb won’t take off.

To do our part, we’ve decided that on top of giving away free copies of Start Here for every copy ordered on February 23rd — we want to give away prizes to our top Book Bomb participants and promoters. Here’s what we’ve come up with…

All orders of 5 or more copies will receive…

- One autographed copy of Start Here OR
- One “Do Hard Things” t-shirt.

All orders of 10 or more copies will receive…

- One autographed copy of Start Here AND
- One “Do Hard Things” t-shirt AND
- One ticket to a 2010 Rebelution Conference

The largest order placed on February 23rd will receive…

- One autographed copy of Start Here AND
- Two “Do Hard Things” t-shirts AND
- Three tickets to a 2010 Rebelution Conference AND
- We want to meet you backstage and say thanks!

We will also have corresponding prizes for our Top Three Promoters. These are people who have enthusiastically and creatively helped spread the word about the book bomb. We understand not everyone can afford to purchase 5+ books (and if you can’t afford it, don’t feel bad about not participating). But everyone can help spread the word — and if you do a good job, we want to reward you.

We hope these prizes encourage and equip you to spread the word. We offer them because we truly believe that an effective Book Bomb next Tuesday is one of the best (and practical) ways to reach our culture and generation with message that will point them to Christ and make them more effective in His service. Soli Deo gloria!

*whew!* wow! You just inspired me to really get the word out! :D I’ll be working hard, Alex!

Morgan :)

2. Alex Says:

Hmmm… what can I do? I will be thinking and praying.

3. Katherine Says:

Hello from the Dominican Republic!
I’m a youth group leader at my church. I posted this info on our youth group facebook fan page!!! http://www.facebook.com/pages/222/170788353632 I am hoping it will encourage some of our youth to get involved in your book bomb.
God bless you :)

4. Camden M. Says:

Coolio! Quick question on the rules (regarding publicizing), what’s the “email submissions to book [at] therebelution [dot] com?” Thanks,

Camden

5. Alex Says:

I wonder if your brother Josh could help you promote in any way. I will post this on the Generation Joshua forums.

6. Johanna Says:

Are the prizes open to residents of the U.S.A. only? Don’t get me wrong I will still order books but are the prizes for Americans only?

7. Rachel Says:

I would love to have three free tickets to a conference this summer, because i am planning on going to one that’s on my sweet-sixteen, but i can’t get any friends to buy it. :( I can’t afford to buy many copies of it.

8. Tabitha Hems Says:

I am so excited about Start Here! I have been working on telling everyone possible about it, and I will be working hard until the 23rd! :)

Alex and Brett: Don’t worry about the number of pledges, rebelutionaries will pull through for you. Trust in the Lord, we can do what, maybe even you two don’t expect. ;)

9. Katelyn Snell Says:

Rachel, don’t worry about it, God knows your heart. I admire your desire to spread the word.
I’ll put the word out on my blog.

10. Tabitha Hems Says:

Sorry, I forgot to ask, is there a deadline for emailing our submissions to you?

11. Alex Jordan Harris Says:

Camden: That means that people who are spreading the word (or someone who observed them doing so) can tell us about things we couldn’t know about otherwise. We’ll add that information to our own observation and knowledge of individual rebelutionary’s efforts. :)

Rachel: I totally understand your dilemma! As an idea, because we got a lot of emails about this last time — sometimes an even better bet is to talk to parents, because they have more money and might see the benefit in the book more quickly than their teen will (until they read it, hopefully!). :)

Tabitha: Thanks for the reminder to trust in the Lord, sister! :) And yes, I don’t have any doubts that rebelutionaries will surprise us — you guys have surpassed our expectations many times! ;)

12. Alex Jordan Harris Says:

Tabitha: We’ll give people till the end of the week after the Book Bomb — so the end of the month.

13. Madeline Says:

Plugged you guys on my blog. ;D

http://thestuffundermybed.blogspot.com/2010/02/start-here.html

I’m for you all the way - though I won’t be able to buy the book just now, unfortunately. I’m saving for a trip to Project Dance this spring. =( But I will buy it when I get a chance!

14. Rachel Says:

I just wrote a note on facebook about it and tagged all my friends’ parents in it, hopefully they will read it!

15. shay Says:

Wow wish I could have bought the 5 copies! I can only buy three though =( but I will help promote on facebook!

16. Arielle Says:

That last prize would be great, but I highly doubt I can buy that many books. :) I just added Matthew’s app to my profile (Thank you, Matthew!) and I’m promoting it around my church.

17. Jordan Elizabeth Says:

Wow, your update scared me into action. I took Camden’s lead, re-doing my blog somewhat, I hope it will do some good! (although I don’t have very many readers)

but faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen…

So, on another note, I noticed that you guys are teaching us to be effective rebels, intelligent computer hackers, and now widespread bombers. Interesting concepts… :D

18. Katie M. age 14 Says:

This sounds so cool. My problem is that most, well all of my friends (except one) are not interested or are not allowed to be in the Rebelution. The one who is in is completely broke but I did my best. I know I won’t win but I did my best!

19. Alesia Says:

Unfortunately (as much as I’d love the chance to win some of those prizes) I can only afford one copy =(

But, I will see if I can pull some money together and possibly get two…I’ll have to see though.

In HIM
Alesia

20. Alex Says:

@Jordan - LOL!

21. Alesia Says:

Just wanted to let you know - Alex and Brett - that I shared about the book on my blog. Maybe, if you didn’t mind and you have a minute, you could stop by and leave a comment of encouragement to anyone who may read the post?

Thanks
In HIM
Alesia

22. Jordan Elizabeth Says:

@Alesia: Hey, yeah, that’s a great idea!!! (hint, hint…)

23. Morgan Says:

okay, so, we send y’all an email that says what we did/are doing to spread the word, right?

24. Jessica Says:

I am so excited!!!!!! I’ll keep spreading the word! I also put a post on my blog… http://generationstandup.blogspot.com/2010/02/its-time-to-start-here.html

Thank you Alex and Brett for all your work on this!

25. Lexi Says:

AHHH COOL!!! I’m so going to keep promoting this and thats so cool that you guys are giving away prizes.

Blessings,
Lexi

26. Emily Says:

Never mind! I figured it out–the book bomb is on Feb. 23 and the actual release of the book is March 16. ….Too bad! :) I’ll have to wait a couple more weeks!

27. Rae Says:

I’ve posted on my blog about this! I really hope you get the number that is needed!! The ten copies I buy will certainly by put to good use!!! I’ll keep my friends and family updated about this!!!

God bless!

28. Jess A. Says:

There will be some cramped hands after giving out all those signed copies. :)

This is really exciting! I have no way of promoting or buying, but I will do what I can– praying for you all and this project. This is a phenomenal way to get the Word out.

29. Jordan Elizabeth Says:

I think I’m going to try to circulate some materials about this at my church this Wednesday and hopefully Sunday too. It’s cutting it a little close, but maybe one person will be impacted by the Rebelution message.

Soli Deo Gloria
~Jordan Elizabeth

30. Sarah Peña Says:

How I wish I had a blog to promote this on! :( But I’ve sent a mass e-mail to everyone I know and am telling everyone I meet!

God bless you Alex and Brett and thank you so much for everything you do for us Rebelutionaries! :)

31. Meridian Says:

WOW! I will definetly do what I can to spread the word and will order as many copies as I can use (and afford! :)

Thanks so much, Alex and Brett! You are definently blessings in so many lives, including my own!

32. Tabitha Hems Says:

I sent a mass email as well, and I have two more people who want me to order a copy for them.

Alex (and Brett ;)), you are most welcome brother! You have often encouraged me, and I just wanted to return the favor. God bless!

33. Tim Sleeper Says:

I’ll email all my friends and see what I can do as far as promoting on the net. I may also be able to order more copies myself. I am hoping I’ll be able to get a large group so we can go with the discount. Can’t wait for Feb 23!

34. Hannah Leary Says:

I hope to be buying one for myself, but I can’t afford anymore (and hardly the one for me) :(. I will definitely let others borrow my copy. Praying for the Lord’s will in and through it all.

Blessings,
Hannah

35. Tim Sleeper Says:

Just a quick update. Thanks to Camden M. for giving me the idea. I temporarily tailored my blog to promote the Start Here book bomb. Click on my name to see it! I also have a page at my blog called “Book Bomb” and I have two banners there that you can use on your own website.

Now I gotta go and send those emails!

36. Jessica Says:

Wow love love LOVE it Tim!!

37. Kathryn D. Says:

Well, I will be getting started. Alex & Brett, keep up your good work.

38. Sarah Says:

Right now I am typing up a letter to give to my youth group tomorrow night! I am going to order (at least) one for my self, and I am going to try to get my whole youth group buying some too! I typed up a letter that took up a whole page, and I even had to make the margins point 2 inches to get it all on one page! Crazy, huh? :)

39. Marli R. Says:

Does it help the rating if you download it to Amazon’s Kindle? =)

40. Sarah Says:

hmmm…I wonder…

41. Alesia Says:

@ Jordan Elizabeth: haha yes I agree =D

42. Jordan Elizabeth Says:

@Alesia: sorry, with what do you agree?

43. Alesia Says:

I also meant to ask, if I order from Amazon.ca…does it still go towards the book bomb? Or does it HAVE to be through Amazon.com?

44. Alesia Says:

@Jordan Elizabeth: lol, you said “@Alesia: Hey, yeah, that’s a great idea!!! (hint, hint…)”
in responce to my post “Just wanted to let you know - Alex and Brett - that I shared about the book on my blog. Maybe, if you didn’t mind and you have a minute, you could stop by and leave a comment of encouragement to anyone who may read the post?”

45. Alesia Says:

O.o
Arg HTML’s

46. Tabitha Hems Says:

My youth pastor has asked me to order two copies for him too! God is good!

See you two, trust in the Lord, and slowly but surely we’re coming through for you. ;)

47. Jordan Elizabeth Says:

@Alesia: Oh, ok, gotcha, that’s what I thought!!

48. Elissa C. Says:

I’m definitely excited!! I’ve sent e-mails to all my friends and am buying a few more copies myself. I’m praying that God will use this book bomb to His glory in spreading the message of Christ and doing hard things. :)

49. Kathrann Says:

Mr. Alex and Mr. Brett Harris

I thought you probably checked the comments on your newest post first before you looked at the older posts, so I commented here.
I recently was writing a speech for a Youth Speakers contest at our regional tournament that is associated with our Southern Baptist church. I had always had a ‘weird’ feeling about giving a speech in a church. So finally, I asked my Father, and He said that He had never felt comfortable about me giving a speech. I then asked Him the question that had been on my mind, what is the difference in a speech, and a sermon? I’m aware of, and totally agree with the scriptural doctrine of women not teaching in the church. I would have been giving a speech, on a theological topic, to a mixed audience. I believe that would be wrong. So now, I trying to find an answer to the question, what’s the difference between a sermon and a speech? Women shouldn’t be teaching men, only the older women teaching the younger women. (Titus 2). Another thing my Father and I found wrong, is that they make no distinctions between the boys and girls and their speeches.
I was just wondering what your thoughts were on this. :)

Blessings,
Kathrann
P.S.
I love your ministry, and I pray God may continue to bless!

50. Selah Says:

Wow, you guys totally inspired me to get the word out! I have now dedicated a page of my blog to the promotion, where I have put two custom pictures, and a link to 3 firefox personas I designed. Hope it helps!

51. Camden M. Says:

Sweet pictures, Selah! I’m totally using one on a blog page!

Camden

52. Clarice G. Says:

Awesome! Let’s get this thing on the best sellers list!

Thinking through a photo idea to promote this book on my deviantART photography site, but the HTML banner/box whatchamacallit is going in right now. :)
Can’t wait!

53. Tim Sleeper Says:

Sweet, Selah! love your pictures and see you beat me to creating a Firefox persona. I like em all btw, so I’ll find some place to put one of your pics on my blog. If you all want to choose from yet another Firefox persona, visit my book bomb page on my blog. And also visit Selah’s blog as well!

54. Alex Says:

ATTN: The Rebelution (Alex & Brett)

Marli asked if Kindle sales help the rating, audiobooks as well for that matter. I think it would, maybe not in the same way. I don’t think you can sign up for the book bomb if you are buying Kindle, but if you do buy Kindle/eBook format you should probably buy it on the same day as the Book Bomb, right? Just wondering. I will probably be getting a Kindle. Thank you Alex & Brett!

55. Kay Morris Says:

Well, I highly doubt I will win anything, and that is not my goal, anyway. My goal is to buy a few copies of this book for me and my friends and my library, because I honestly believe that this book can change lives, as the whole idea of The Rebelution has changed mine (I have not yet read all of Do Hard Things, because we gave our copy away to a young lady who needed it, but I borrowed it and am reading it now, and hope to buy it eventually).

Unfortunately I won’t be of much help, but I will do what I can (which is not much at all) simply because I believe in this book, as a tool that can change lives. I hope that God richly blesses the efforts of those who are able to do so much more than I, and also that He would bless all who read the book.

~Kaitland

56. Kay Morris Says:

I forgot to mention, though, that I am REALLY hoping that come September I will make it to a DHT conference. It isn’t the nearest to me for sure (ya’ll should really consider a conference in FL), but there is one held ON my 18th birthday, and I am hoping to go. Also, Do Hard Things is a great book! I am still greatly looking forward to Start Here. I just sent in a request for a blog submission on Holy Worlds to tell about Do Hard Things and Start Here. So, while I can’t do much, I am trying to help out. :D

57. Andie Says:

I added the Facebook Widget to my Familys page, and I plan to send an email to a few friends and Rebelutionaries. This is so cool! Can wait for the book to come out!!!

58. Allison R. Says:

I can’t figure out how to sign up for this!
I did do a post on it though, and I also put the blog button things on. So I’m trying, even if I can’t afford many books!
~Alli

59. Allison R. Says:

I am even going to try and find a red and black blog background to match… I’m really trying to help you guys!!! :)Oh, and don’t forget to check out my blog by clicking on my name:)
~Alli

60. Morgan Says:

Allison, you want to sign up to order a book, right? You go to “The Book”, then click “Book Bomb” under the label “Start Here” on the sidebar. There it has the box where you can sign up. :) I hope that makes sence! Tell me if you need more help. :)

61. Morgan Says:

Actually, here’s the link:

http://www.therebelution.com/books/starthere/book_bomb.php

LOL.

62. Allison R. Says:

I just changed my background… it’s not the best, but it was the best I could do:)

63. Allison R. Says:

It says that it’s not a valid email address…. now what? :)

64. Selah Says:

Hello, all. I have started an email blast. If you want a copy of the email, go to
http://thekingslibrary92.blogspot.com/p/rebelution-email-blast.html
and follow the directions in the side bar. Some of you might have already started one, but maybe if we get it going in enough circles, hopefully it will reach even more people! I forgot to put a link to the banners and personas, so here it is:
http://thekingslibrary92.blogspot.com/p/irebelution.html
I hope this all helps,
God bless.

Hey, Allison. Check your spelling first, and then if it doesn’t go through, try another email address. If it STILL doesn’t go through, you might can email Brett or Alex at the email address on the Book Bomb page: book [at] therebelution [dot] com.

65. Annie R Says:

Allison R: The first time I tried I typed the first letter of my email and then pushed the down key to get the whole thing and it came up with the not valid email address message, so I deleted it and typed my address out in full and it worked :)

66. Sarah Says:

Im going to wait to sign up till I know if my friends are going to order some too. Then, I will put it all under 1 email address. :)

67. Allison R. Says:

I got it, thanks!:)
~Alli

68. Camden McAfee Says:

Awesome, Selah! =D I wish I had used that when I sent my group e-mail!

Camden

69. Camden M. Says:

Encouraging note to all Rebelutionaries:

Have you guys seen? When Alex and Brett launched the Book Bomb nine days ago, Start Here was number 55,499 in Books. Now, just over a week later, it’s number 16,244 in Books. At this rate, we can get #1 no prob come Tuesday! =D

Camden

70. Katie M. age 14 Says:

Question: Who is Elsa Stanford? I am so happy about the book bomb! I have been praying like crazy!

71. Jessy Says:

If every rebelutionary just bought one book each, think how many there would be! Keep ‘em coming!

72. Elissa C. Says:

Camden: That is so cool!
I can feel the excitement growing :)

73. Hannah Leary Says:

Going to spend a mass email out to my homeschool group! I’m really excited to see what God’s going to do through this.

Blessings,
Hannah

74. Joanna Fisher Says:

Sure wish I could get more people interested in “Start Here”. I can’t wait to read it!!! I really wish I could meet you in person & say a BIG “THANK YOU”!!!!!!!

75. Allison R. Says:

I wish I had money to buy 50 books and give them away to every “teenager” I meet!!!
Unfortunately I cannot afford that.. :)
~Alli

76. Camden M. Says:

Alright, 800 commitments! Come on, Rebelutionaries, let’s break 1000 commitments by Sunday! (self-imposed deadline)(I’m not sure if I can do that, but I just did!) =D

Camden!

77. Jordan Elizabeth Says:

Yeah, this is great!

(enthusiasm is sure lacking here… *extreme sarcasm*)

~Jordan

78. Kathrann Says:

My parents said that we may buy 5 or so books for the book bomb!
I haven’t ‘officially’ joined the Rebelution, but I’m trying hard things right along with you! :) Hope you make it to 1000 commitments Camden!

Blessings,
Kathrann

79. Lindsey H. Says:

I believe I have just about enough money for 4 books… As soon as i get that checked I will pledge!!
I think I might make little cards with the information about the Book Bomb on them and hand them out at church. Good idea?
Any other suggestions??

80. Lindsey H. Says:

Echoing Kay, I really hope I can come to the DC conference… but it might be a stretch. You should do a conference somewhere in New England.

81. Abby Says:

I’m from Canada…will it still count for the ratings if I order off amazon.ca (the Canadian version)?

82. Lexi Says:

can’t wait for the D.C conference!!! so excited for this new year, new book, new tour, YAY!

83. Alesia Says:

I decided to order 3 books and give one to a friend of mine who could really use it. One will be for me, and the third will be kept handy just encase God should send someone to us who could use it =)

84. Camden M. Says:

After advertising at my church, I got ten friends to commit to buying the book!

Camden

I’ve also been advertising of my twitter account, if you haven’t seen yet… http://twitter.com/Camden_M (Oh the dangers if I had a Facebook!)

85. Alex Jordan Harris Says:

Camden: Way to go, brother — and everyone!

We only have 24 hours left — if we can just get into the 1,000-1,100 range, we’re really set! :D

86. Alesia Says:

I’m telling as many people as I can and I’ll be posting it as a FB status in literally, only a few seconds!

87. Marli R. Says:

I sent an email out to 164 different people, and created a post about it on CollegePlus!’s forum’s, which has had over 85 views. Out of all the emails, I have had ten families say they were definitely buying the book. In the last week, as I have run into people, quite a few of them mentioned that they wanted to buy the book on the 23rd, but they didn’t think to email me back and let me know, so I hope there are more who are thinking the same thing! I will be sending out another email tomorrow morning reminding everyone to buy the book on the 23rd, and to sign up on the website in case they haven’t already. I will ask them to email me if they are going to buy it, just so I can have a rough idea of how many people I emailed actually bought it :)

Thank you guys for doing this! I am blown away by all the amazing things everyone is doing with their Facebook accounts, blogs & websites; God is incredibly good! I am very blessed to be able to participate in the Rebelution!

Grace and Peace,

88. Lindsey H. Says:

I sent out an email blast… only no one replied :( I’m hoping the same thing happened as with Marli and I plan on sending another out tomorrow morning!!!

89. Camden M. Says:

Alex and Brett, what was that about “maybe reaching 1200?” =D

Ephesians 3:20-21

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Camden =D

90. Alex Jordan Harris Says:

Marli: Way to spread the word, sister!

Camden: It looks like that huge jump was due to two, very large (and fake) pledges… But we have almost reached our first goal. And there is still all of today! :)

91. Tim Sleeper Says:

We reached the 1000 mark! Now all we need is 100 more! A big shout out to everyone who has helped spread the word! Way to go guys.

92. Matt Malone Says:

YES! I brought the counter up to 1000! :D

Oh just one question: Do the shipping reductions apply anywhere overseas?

This is so amazing! I can’t wait to get the book!

-Matt

93. Morgan Says:

wow! I haven’t been on in a few days, but as soon as I got back, what do I see??? the big 1000! So awesome!!!

94. Sarah Peña Says:

As of tomorrow I will have only 28 cents to my name! LOL! I am spending all I have to buy a bunch of copies and only one is for myself! All the others go to my friends and family! :)

95. Kathrann Says:

Blessings,
Kathrann
