Start Here: Autographed Copies and Book Bomb
In five weeks, our new book Start Here will finally be released. After working on it all last summer and fall, we couldn’t be more excited to get this very practical — and we hope, very inspiring — new resource into the hands of rebelutionaries.
In anticipation of the launch, we’ve revamped the Book area of the site. We’ve added a brand-new section for Start Here — where you can download and read the first two chapters of the new book, as well watch the official promo video.
We also want to announce two exciting pre-release promotions: A partnership with BooksChristian.com to raise money for relief efforts in Haiti and the return of the Amazon.com Book Bomb — a chance for rebelutionaries to shock the world again.
Autographs + BooksChristian.com = Help for Haiti
Over the next few weeks (between exams, papers, and homework) we’ll be signing almost 2,000 bookplates — many of which will go to BooksChristian.com. They’re the exclusive source for pre-ordering autographed copies of Start Here.
We did a similar promotion for Do Hard Things — but unlike last time, when you pre-order your autographed copy of Start Here, $2 (almost 20 percent) of your purchase will be donated to the Haiti relief efforts of Samaritan’s Purse.
This is a great opportunity to get an autographed copy of the new book and support the efforts of those responding to one of the greatest tragedies of our time. To learn more about the disaster — and to lend a hand — visit Samaritan’s Purse.
The Amazon.com Book Bomb
On March 25th, 2008, rebelutionaries stunned the publishing world by propelling Do Hard Things — a hardcover, challenging, non-fiction book for teens — to the Top 5 on the Amazon.com Bestseller List. In 2010, we’re going to do it again.
The Amazon.com Book Bomb will coordinate hundreds of people all ordering Start Here on the same day — Tuesday, February 23rd — raising the book to a place where thousands of new eyes (and hearts) will be exposed to its message.
Like last time, this is about spreading the message, not selling a lot of books. That’s why we commit to give away as many copies as are purchased on February 23rd — to teens, families, or ministries who can’t afford them.
To learn more about the Book Bomb, sign up to participate, and help spread the word (we need your help!) check out the Book Bomb page.
Promotions… But A Whole Lot More
The reason we are so excited about these promotions is that, while they include buying books — they’re actually about a whole lot more.
When you pre-order a copy of Start Here from BooksChristian.com, you’re not only getting an autographed copy, you’re also giving to relief efforts in Haiti.
When you order copies to give away to family and friends on February 23rd, you’re not only helping reach a whole new audience with the “do hard things” message, you’re also providing free copies of Start Here to teens who can’t afford them.
We hope you’re as excited as we are, not just about the release of Start Here, but about a chance to make a difference in the lives of others — soli Deo gloria!

I pre-ordered Do Hard Things when it came out two years ago. The book was inspiring and challenging. Now I’m really curious about what’s coming up in this new one! Can’t wait!
February 9th, 2010 at 1:24 pm
I pre-ordered my Start Here book (like 6 months ago) on Amazon. Will it still count as being purchased on February 23rd, or do I need make a seperate purchase on that date?
February 9th, 2010 at 1:30 pm
Yay! I’m so excited to read it! I’ll be ordering one soon! God bless you guys!
Rachel
February 9th, 2010 at 1:33 pm
Eric: Thanks for pointing that out! Should be fixed.
Andrea: Thank you so much! Unfortunately, in order to be counted as part of the Book Bomb, it has to be purchased on February 23rd — so you’d need to make a separate purchase then.
February 9th, 2010 at 1:35 pm
Alesia: No, only the books ordered from BooksChristian.com (while supplies last) are signed.
February 9th, 2010 at 1:37 pm
I am looking forward to getting this book!
February 9th, 2010 at 1:37 pm
Thanks! Guess I’ll be getting two books in the mail then — hooray!
February 9th, 2010 at 1:39 pm
Oooohhh! I LOVE Do Hard Things!!! I can’t wait to read this one!!!! I’ll post about it on my blog.
February 9th, 2010 at 1:41 pm
Morgan: Awesome! Thanks, Morgan!
February 9th, 2010 at 1:44 pm
I can’t wait! I am gonna tell all my friends to order it on the 23rd!
February 9th, 2010 at 1:44 pm
Alex, I don’t want this to sound weird, but, did you get married last month? just wondering.
February 9th, 2010 at 1:57 pm
Morgan: I did.
February 9th, 2010 at 2:01 pm
CONGRATS!!!!! So excited for you!!!
I asked cause I hadn’t heard anything, but I knew that was y’all’s plan.
CONGRATS again!!!!
Morgan
February 9th, 2010 at 2:06 pm
YAY I am so excited. And I love the way that you guys aren’t just promoting your book but you are also helping others!!!
February 9th, 2010 at 2:08 pm
Alright, so if I understand this right, there’s two different ways to contribute:
1) order off Amazon.com and contribute to the Book Bomb, with a free copy to someone who can’t afford one, OR
2) pre-order off ChristianBook.com and get an autographed copy (while supplies last), with $2 going to Haiti relief efforts / book.
This is a hard choice, but I’ll spread the word!
Camden
P.S. One last thing. =) About the section that’s all about putting your e-mail and the number of books we plan on buying, that’s just so you guys know how many copies to give away / what to expect, right? Okay, I think it all makes sense now! This is going to be amazing! =D
February 9th, 2010 at 2:13 pm
Camden: You’re exactly right!
And yes, the section for putting your email and number of books is so we can keep track of how we’re doing — we need to order at least 1,000 copies on February 23rd to break into the Top 100.
But based on last time, we know rebelutionaries can do it.
February 9th, 2010 at 2:24 pm
The link to the promo video isn’t working, unfortunately.
February 9th, 2010 at 2:31 pm
I will be ordering my book on the 23rd! Can’t wait!
February 9th, 2010 at 2:36 pm
Joanna: Thanks for catching that! Fixed.
February 9th, 2010 at 3:11 pm
This Is sweet. I hope to get at least 5 books.
February 9th, 2010 at 3:41 pm
Alex: Thanks!
I doubt a blog can get more advertised for this Book Bomb than mine is right now! (Click my name to see my blog, totally revamped in honor of the Start Here Book Bomb!)
February 9th, 2010 at 3:47 pm
Oh man! Sorry, I just pre-ordered through Amazon.com a few days ago b/c I didn’t want to forget! But don’t worry . . . I will be promoting for you through Facebook. Too bad about not getting it autographed but . . . well, meeting you two in Plano two years ago makes it okay.
February 9th, 2010 at 3:50 pm
Camden: That’s amazing! Way to spread the word!
John: Thanks for spreading the word! And keep an eye on the blog over the next two weeks… We’ll be announcing prizes (including some personalized autographed copies) for participants (and publicists) in the Book Bomb.
February 9th, 2010 at 3:53 pm
Awesome stuff; keep up the great work!
February 9th, 2010 at 4:01 pm
This is so awesome… guess what I’m getting for my birthday!!!
February 9th, 2010 at 4:16 pm
I also posted this on my blog! This is so exciting!!
February 9th, 2010 at 4:57 pm
Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was jumping in circles when I found out! Thanks Alex and Brett, this sounds like an answer to some of my questions after reading DHT!
Have you guys ever thought of making DHT into a Sunday school/small group curriculum? I think it could introduce reluctant rebelutionaries to the idea…
February 9th, 2010 at 5:19 pm
Man I am stoked. I am so getting this book. Thanks, y’all! I totally loved the first one and I cannot wait to get my hands on this one.
And you know what is SO FUNNY is that I am in the youth choir at PHC. LOL!!
Congrats on getting married!!! I’d never heard about that till now.
February 9th, 2010 at 5:23 pm
I haven’t even read your first book. But somehow, I’m looking forward to this second one far more. I’m looking forward to getting to the really down in the trenches side of this.
Fantastic work with the book promotion. It’s going to be exhilarating to watch this unfold.
-Marshall Jones Jr.
February 9th, 2010 at 5:38 pm
I am excited about what God is doing with the Rebelution.
I don’t know if it’s a mistake, but on page 17 (I was previewing - page 28 of the PDF but it says 17 in the corner) it reads:
Rather than caring about who gets the credit, we’re
commanded to “outdo one another in showing honor” (Romans
12:10)r.
Is that “r” supposed to be there? - I wasn’t sure and thought I’d mention it.
God Bless!
Alex
February 9th, 2010 at 5:52 pm
Wow, Camden! that’s amazing!
February 9th, 2010 at 5:59 pm
Okay thanks Alex! Then I DEFINITELY have to get one! I’ll talk to my mom about it and order it ASAP!
P.S I cannot wait for the conference you guys are having in Surrey in May! ^_^

oh and by the way, just to drop a hint — the farthest North Western confrence y’all have had is D.C. - Maybe Next year, could y’all try and come “up”??? I live in PA — and I have really REALLY wanted to come to a conference, but that’s a little too far to drive (PLUS I will be driving next year, so it’ll need to be close
Next state (maryland, New Jersey, Maryland, etc. etc.) Would do also (winks ;D)
February 9th, 2010 at 6:34 pm
We have it pre-ordered already for the bookstore I work in and we are totally excited. I always get pumped when customers ask me for book recommendations, especially for teens, and I can point them to Do Hard Things. And I love being able to mention you guys have a follow up book coming out next month.
It’s part of what I love about my job.
February 9th, 2010 at 6:37 pm
Hey guys!! I was wondering if you could pre-order and get a copy through Amazon.ca because I live in Canada. Thanks!!
February 9th, 2010 at 6:38 pm
Oh, and I’m afraid that if I read the first two chapters, it will be so much harder waiting for the rest.
February 9th, 2010 at 8:34 pm

Just a question, I couldn’t see anywhere on the site if they do, but is there a way for me to pay with Paypal?
February 9th, 2010 at 10:08 pm
Alex: Wow, great catch! Brett and I hadn’t noticed that… It must have slipped in somewhere in the editing process. I emailed our publisher to find out whether it made it in the final “to-print” book.
February 10th, 2010 at 1:07 am
Yay yay yay!! I am so excited about this! Thankyou for all the work you do to challenge our generation for the Kingdom of God Alex and Brett! I am about to go blog about this now…
Absolutely can’t wait to get a copy in my hands!
February 10th, 2010 at 2:13 am
This is great (from the book):
“So where do you start? As you’ll find in the pages that follow, the answer is: right where you are. Being a rebelutionary means committing to doing even ordinary things extraordinarily well. As each of us is faithful in that, God will be faithful to prepare us for whatever calling He has for us.
For some of us, that calling will be big in the world’s eyes, and for some of us it will be small. Whether it is big or small, God will be glorified — and the world will be changed by a generation that gives up seeking worldly success to pursue a life of faithfulness.
That’s when ordinary becomes extraordinary.”
Amen!
And that’s (almost) funny about the typo because that was one of the things that actually really stood out to me when I read ‘Do Hard Things’ — no noticeable typing or spelling mistakes.
February 10th, 2010 at 2:26 am
Oh… and are we supposed to write poems for this book bomb (like was requested last time)?
February 10th, 2010 at 4:02 am

This is so exciting! I already own an autographed copy of DHT, so I’ll definitely buy Start Here via Amazon.
February 10th, 2010 at 10:47 am
Hmm. I don’t know…it seems a bit artificial to try and get everyone to buy at the same time so it will make the top list. Did you guys do that for DHT? I don’t remember anything about that and it still made it to the top. Wouldn’t it be better to let it get to the top naturally?
By the way, I am saving for summer camp so I’m not buying anything at the moment, but I’ll be getting it after July.

February 11th, 2010 at 1:51 pm
Esther Thanks for helping to spread the word! The retail price of the book is $12.99, but if you order on BooksChristian.com it is $11.95 and on Amazon.com (for the Book Bomb) it is $8.76.

February 11th, 2010 at 8:43 pm
I don’t want to take the time to register on your redicuously hard to enter forums, so I’m posting this here.
My mother bought your book thinking it would ‘motivate me’ or some crap, as if going into the Air Force and becoming and engineer wasn’t enough.
I will admit it is a good message, even if it doesn’t affect me, but could you have given this some thought? Not all of us are Christian. Not all teens are heterosexual, or watch only PG-13 movies like anything else is un-godlike. Not to say that I am a bad person, I don’t fight, I don’t drink, smoke, or do drugs… but come on. Having a bible verse or the word God or Christ in every single page (and I actually COUNTED)? That’s almost offensive to me, and I’m sure it was to others. Want your message to get out? Want to motivate the world? Want to help people selflessly? Then look past your OWN narrow minded views on what someone should be and open up, otherwise don’t bother publishing anything.

Alex,
quick Q: I work for a new Christian mag and we were wondering if we could get an interview of you guys about the Rebelution on there. Also, theres a review and reccomended colum which I wanted to do something on your new book. The problem is, the issue doesn’t come out until after the book bomb, but I’d still love to spread the word about your books because more teens need to read them!
February 12th, 2010 at 8:21 am

Do you have to order from Amazon to be part of the book bomb?
February 12th, 2010 at 9:08 pm
Im gonna quote my last comment since no one answered…
I dont know what to do. Should I get an autographed copy, and benefit Haiti, or should I help with the Book Bomb? Which one would you guys rather do???
February 13th, 2010 at 12:31 am
I know I’m not Brett or Alex, but I know a few answers!
Sarah Beth, yes, the book bomb is run through Amazon (one site on one specific date, Feb 23).
Sarah, here’s what I consider. For the first option, an autograph is really just a couple of scribbles on a piece of paper, and if you really wish to benifit Haiti, there are other great ways to do this too. For the book bomb, this is a one time only chance for teens to come together and show the world what teens really care about. As well, contributing to the book bomb means that another person or ministry will recieve a free book they may not be able to afford!

I am a chinese high school student.
What I wanna say is that I am so encouraged by this website and your brother’s books. Everytime when I scan the web and read the book “do hard things”, I am just filled with emotion and enthusiasm. In China, most teenagers are controlled by teachers and parents. They don’t need to do hard things. All their things are managered by their parents and teachers. Even their study are in the charge of their teachers. Because of this situation, they don’t have to do much thinking, but follow the rules of teachers and parents.
I just want someone to pray for chinese students and let us do hard things.
Eventually, I will go to the US college to study. To be honest, I am so fraid of that. The different environment will make me feel kind of nervous. However, it is also a chance for me to do the hard things. So God be with me!!
Thanks for reading my reply!!
Greetings from China.

Sarah Beth, I think your question is a pretty common one (Bookschristian or Amazon, which one do I choose?). I know I briefly answered your question, but for anyone looking for a full analysis of these two, I’ve answered the question on my Start Here themed blog (just click on my name)!

Camden, you are so right. Thank you so much for your advice. I am going to support the Book Bomb, and try to get my friends to also.

Ok I pledged 3! I will get one for me and hold a challenge for my do hard things group to decide who gets the other 2!
February 13th, 2010 at 4:36 pm
I’m a little confused… if we order the book on February 23rd then it isn’t autographed, but if we order it now through BooksChristian.com then it is autographed? Is that right? It might sound silly, but I want to get a copy that is not autographed so when I see Alex and Brett again I can get it autographed in person!

I have a quick question. When I signed up and put that I was ordering 1 copy through the thing here on the blog, does that mean I don’t have to buy through amazon? Or do I still have to go to amazon on the 23′rd, and add it to my cart and pay?
Also, Alex and Brett I sent you an email with a few more questions.
Thanks

This is so exciting! This may sound very odd(I’m not computer savvy) but the quantity space is slid over. Not sure if this makes any difference or is of any importance…
Thank you, Harris Bros. and family! I look forward to using these books to minister to the young people in our area!

Millie: Thanks for letting us know! What browser are you using?

Hi again, my browser seems to be MSIE 7.0. Hope this helps!

I think I understand the problem. It has to do with using older browsers, and the code used to make the text boxes, I guess. My computer runs Internet Explorer 8, which has the option of “compatibility mode,” which is supposed to make websites using older stuff look better. Using IE-8, it’s just fine; however, when I put on compatibility mode, the text boxes slide out of place. I think it still works fine, it just looks a little wierd.
