On the Huckabee Show

UPDATE: There was some confusion about air dates for the show. We just learned that it will air on Saturday, July 17th at 8 PM (ET), and will re-air at 2 AM, 8 PM and 11 PM on Sunday the 18th.

UPDATE #2: Apparently an opportunity to interview Robert Duvall has caused our show to be re-scheduled once more. We’ll let you know when we get an update. Thanks for your patience (we’re waiting too).

Brett and I are about to step on the NYC set of the Fox News Channel hit talk show ‘Huckabee’ with former Governor Mike Huckabee to discuss the Do Hard Things message and movement. Please pray that God would use our words to challenge and inspire our generation to boldness and faithfulness for Him.

The show will air on Saturday, July 17th at 8 PM (ET), and will re-air at 2 AM, 8 PM and 11 PM on Sunday the 18th. Be sure to tune in and spread the word to family and friends. This is a great opportunity to introduce new people to the Rebelution movement.

  20. Rick Says:

I’ll be praying for you Alex and Brett that you will not be indicted as co-defendants along with Abby and Zack’s parents for child endangerment. Don’t blame Gov. Huckabee for being wise enough to pull your interview until the outrage across the country has subsided. You were so proud of fellow rebelutionary Zack; he was doing “hard things”. Why haven’t you shown Abby some love? Both young people were not only doing “dangerous things”, they were doing dumb things. Looks like the Rebelution has run into a storm.

  21. Kate M. age 14 Says:

Hey Rick? Just curious, what do you mean by “…why haven’t you shown Abby some love?…”

  22. Rebekah Says:

I’m so excited to see the places that the Lord is taking you, and the doors He is opening up for you!

ps. how do I get my blog on your blogroll?

  23. Rick Says:

    Kate,
Here is what Alex and Brett posted on July 17, 2009: “As the highest-profile rebelutionary to date, Zac can certainly use our prayers and encouragement. With that in mind, we’ve written the following letter to Zac, and wanted to share it with you at the same time in order to inform your prayers and help guide your reactions to his historic accomplishment.” “So, once again, congratulation! Welcome back. Our prayers are with you as you plan for whatever comes next — and we’ve got your back all the way.”

When Abby attempts the same hard thing and almost loses her life, her parents are facing criminal charges and her dad lies to the nation about trying to cash in on Abby’s heroics; where is Alex and Brett? The silence is deafening. Alex and Brett assured Zac that they “had his back”. What about Abby? Why have they treated her so shabby? If Zac is the most high-profile rebelutionary to date, I guess that makes Abby the most embarrassing rebelutionary to date.

  24. Rick Says:

    Kate,
I answered your question earlier today but I forgot to exalt Alex and Brett and the post was removed. Sorry.

  25. Kate M. age 14 Says:

I do see what you mean, I think. Abby and Zach could have spent their time doing more useful hard things than sailing around the world. I did pray for their safety. I just wasn’t sure what you meant. :) (Random question: Are you Richard?) In Christ, ~Kate~

  26. Rebecca E. W. (to be fourteen in a day) Says:

I would love to watch ya’ll on the Huckabee show, but we don’t have cable, unfortunately. But my grandmother does, so maybe…

  27. Melinda Says:

Thats really awesome, I am so glad you guys get to do this, I will be praying!
    Blessings,
    Meggie

  28. Taylor Hannah Says:

Wow this is my first time experience on the blog, and i can say that i do love it. I will be praying for you guys… I am almost finishing Do Hard Things and it is truly life changing. Thanks for all you do!

  29. Alex Jordan Harris Says:

Rick: This comment is addressed to you, but not in order to start a discussion. Your habit is to make wild accusations, and in this instance, for the sake of our teen readers, I will respond. Anyone who reads these comments will have both sides and can judge for themselves.

Brett and I are not embarrassed by Abby. We know her and her family personally — unlike most of the people who currently criticize them. They have our full support and prayers during this difficult time, just as we have theirs as we face the passing of our mother to cancer — something that has kept us from blogging or commenting extensively on the story.

You claim we have shown Abby no love, pointing to our letter to Zac for support. In fact, Governor Huckabee has met Zac and Marianne (his mother) and personally requested that we respond to the accusations made against the Sunderland family in our interview with him — which we did. That interview will broadcast on July 17th, exactly one year to the day after our letter to Zac.

The Rebelution is not about sailing around the world, but it is about raising expectations for teens. Zac and Abby and their parents share that vision. How many more lives have been wasted or thrown away because of low expectations and parental neglect, than because of young people who dared to accomplish something greater — and whose parents supported and provided every step of the way?

What we said in our letter to Zac last year remains our opinion on feats of that kind. They have a place, if only to force our society to rethink their unbiblical, counter-historical assumptions about what young people can and should accomplish with the teen years.

High-profile is not best. Low-profile is not worst — usually it’s the opposite. Faithfulness to Christ and His call is the goal. From what we know of the Sunderland family, that is their goal as well.

  30. Emily Rose Says:

Well said Alex. Thank you for clearing this up…
Please know we are praying for your mom and all of you during this time.
    Emily

  31. Grant Says:

Nice job dealing with that Alex!

  32. Kate M. age 14 Says:

Right, I won’t say anything more on this except, I am sorry if I judged wrongly. I am working on that. I am still praying for your mom.

  33. Lindsay K. S. Says:

I had my grandpa tape the Huckabee show on Saturday for me (I don’t have dish/direct tv) but I didn’t think to double check the blog and make sure it was still going to be shown. So, I guess I’ll have to wait some more! Can’t wait to watch it though.

  34. Zachary J. Colangelo Says:

I went to private school its wasnt that much different from public.I have trouble following God. Im only 12 going on 13 soon and am in the middle of reading Do Hard things.I love the Lord so much but going through struggles with little sisters(foster Care) and God is definetley changing my life with that but I couldn’t have chosen a better time to read Do Hard Things.

  35. Dixie Buse Says:

WTH? That 2 year old boy from Indonesia that smokes forty cigarettes is CRAZY. Someone needs to kick his parents around, or just launch them into the sea I saw the video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TOtoVEJSTU

  36. Snowdrift128 Says:

    Wow!
    Hope it turns out great!

  37. Thalia Suzuki Says:

This was a great encouragement to me to hear and see the amazing things God is doing to use you. I myself have faced discouragement being one of the only open believers within my school, the death of a friend through suicide who was unsaved, having to watch many of my friends suffer drug addictions, and watch professing believers fall away. Praise the Lord to see your amazing ministry. I have had the amazing blessing to serve in a christian band and play worship for several churches, youth ministries, and christian camps. Lord willing we may go to France and Geneva to play for churches their, and are currently working on recording a CD. Thanks to a God given strength, and the encouragement from fellow believers within my band and youth group I feel that despite my age I can do mighty things through Christ who Strengthens me. I have no fear of speaking about my faith despite the persecutions I face now. I also have seen the great need for your message and the gospel to be preached in Japan, where I have frequently traveled to. I am encouraged to continue and do hard things, whether through music here, or in Japan. You’re always in my prayers!
~fellow rebelutionary and sister in Christ.
