12 Scriptures to Memorize During the COVID-19 Pandemic

1

In the last couple weeks, you’ve probably found yourself with more time on your hands than you ever expected.

Because in the midst of quarantines, lockdowns, and social distancing there are only so many video games and movies and books you can enjoy before you start feeling a little crazy with boredom.

So if you’re one of those people that has said the phrase, “I’m bored” at any point over the last two weeks, I would like to challenge you to try something new.

For many of us, we blame our busy schedules and calendars when we don’t have time to do things such as prayer, Bible study, or even Scripture memorization. I know I have used my crazy schedule as an excuse more times than I’d like to admit.

But suddenly our schedules are empty and our calendars are cleared.

So what are you going to do with all of that time?

What if we took this as an opportunity to do something that held value beyond just the next 24 hours? What if we took this as a chance to invest in something that would last?

What if we used all of the time we now find ourselves having as a chance to grow deeper in our relationship with Jesus?

I think it’s a pretty great opportunity to take. And in the midst of worldwide panic, fear, and worry, I gathered some Bible verses that I feel are important for all of us to remember during this time.

But instead of just reading them, what if you memorized them too? After all, you were just bored a few minutes ago. You have plenty of time on your hands.

Psalm 119 is all about the treasure of knowing God’s Word, hiding it in our hearts and understanding it. Memorizing Scripture, hiding it in our hearts, and actively living it out is more important than we realize.

But now is our chance to realize it.

So whether you’re in quarantine, lockdown, or practicing safe social distancing, here are 12 Scriptures I think you should memorize right now:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.” (Psalm 56:3)

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)

“He who dwells in the shelter of  the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’” (Psalm 91:1-2)

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.” (Philippians 3:7-8)

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10:29-31)

But now thus says the Lord, He who created you, O Jacob, He who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through the fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” (Isaiah 43:1-2)

What will you memorize today?
