Fear Not: A Poem on Living Bravely

F

Life doesn’t have to be going poorly in order for you to be afraid. Sometimes the good things in life are just as frightening as the bad; like starting high-school or university, starting that new dream job, or finally dating that person you’ve had your eye on.

Even though all of those things are good, it can be easy to still fall back into fear. What if I mess up? What if I’m not cut out for this? What if I fall short?

It can be easier to hide or shy away than to risk putting ourselves out there... but we can't live that way. God calls us to an abundant life, not a life of fear. Click To Tweet

It can be easier to hide or shy away than to risk putting ourselves out there… but we can’t live that way.

God calls us to an abundant life, not a life of fear (John 10:10).

God calls us to bravery and courage. And He backed that command to brave living with the promise that He will be with us wherever we go, just as He was with Joshua.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9.

Fear Not

Walking on an icy road
Unsteady, slipping
Mind reeling from the unknown
Never sure what to say or do
Never sure of what is true

Hide
Hide away
Fear is better than risk they say

Look
Look away
Fear is better than risk they say

But You, my God, my Father
Take my hand and lead me to the edge
And say:
Only on the cliffs can you see the view

Fear
Fear not
I will never forsake you
Fear
Fear not
With Me your path is sure and true
Fear not

Do the Brave Thing

I have done a lot of living in fear of both the bad and the good, and can tell you, it’s exhausting, and it doesn’t get you anywhere.

But living life trusting in God’s promise to always be near, and to hold every part of our lives—bad and good—in His hands, that brings peace and rest.

Do something brave today; whether that means taking the lead on a project, applying for the university of your dreams, telling someone how much they mean to you, or simply surrendering your fears at the feet of Jesus.

I promise, God will be holding your hand the whole time.
